Ok i was looking up some information on google & this thread came up, i read all of it & now i created an account just to tell yall this

If you can't run Ut2004 on the X3100 something is seriously wrong with your computer. i have an old 1.1 gig Celeron, 384 Ram & a POS GeForce FX 5200. and it runs everything on max at 30 fps, UT2004 is madd tweakable & i suggest you all go into the UT directory & check out the UT2004 Configuration File, theres so much you can do to make it perform better its no even funny. to make it even better i threw the UT3 Demo on there and after tweaking the living hell out of it it ran at a shocking 15 fps, now i know that isn't good at all but atleast i was in the Game playing around. Now im getting the Gateway - T2310 Laptop for Christmas, & its on Sale at Bestbuy for $399 which is an awsome deal for the price: Now im mainly gunna use it for Photoshop & Virtual DJ but when i get it ill be sure to do some test on it.

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...=product&tab=2&id=1188558584033#productdetail

Also lets clear something else up, Don't use Vista, it sucks way too much memory, my brother has a Gateway laptop, the one under my class with the Celeron & the GMA 950, well it does Halo Perfectly fine solid fps no problem but yet he has 1.5 gig of ram & may i add on his machine Vista uses 600megs of ram which is ridiculous, on my current XP machine it only uses 90megs.

So id recommend using XP for the X3100 and you should have atleast 1gig of ram (2 gigs of ram for Vista), cuz the more ram you have the better the Video Card is gunna perform. You should also get SP3 which gives you a 10% Performance boost & i noticed that in Halo alot.

It will not, and if it does, slideshows usually don't make for fun gaming. Do yourself a favor and get yourself the 8600GT/9500GS if you want to play the game at respectable settings.

Sorry for the french part but still, what do you think about these components?

Depends on what you're going for. If you aren't looking to play any games, this should be just fine. If you are looking to play anything past Solitaire, this isn't too good.

The X3100 is most cases is worse. It's still an IGP. The 8400-8800 range is where you need to be. (8400's being bottom of good gaming cards, 8800 being top) You can find some Vostro's for cheap with the 8600GT. If nothing else, HP offers some affordable models with the 8400GS. It's not a great gaming card, but for the price it is good. Check out the Dell Vostro's, they are great priced laptops with pretty good hardware.

Just got the link to work, and that was a Vostro. Try configuring one with the 8600GT.

Onion, i need som advice; I am spoiled for choice between the GMA X3100 and ATI X1350 knowing that the characteristics of the notebook i am willing to purchase are the following:
    -- a T5470 Core 2 duo 1600 Mhz processor
    --1024 MB RAM
--Graphic card ( GMA X3100 or ATI mobility radion X1350)
and tell me if you've tried the GMA X3100 on a T5470 processor .
    thanks in advance...

Well, I am not talking about which is newer and which is not; x1350 has a memory of 128 MB whereas GMA X3100 has a memory which can reach a maximum of 384 MB and I am not sure which of these two can operate in "tougher" graphics conditions(for example a game with High res, smoothened graphics, greater fps...etc.) ; so please tell me about the performance of these two cards ; which is better , which has the greatest frequency, and which one is mostly recommended and encounters less technical problems while operating.
    thanks

x1350 should be better because x1270 is better than x3100 on 95% of all modern games

Ok, so can anybody stop bickering long enough to answer a question? It would be appreciated if someone could tell me if the Gateway M-6866 Laptop with an Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 2.0GHz, 4GB DDR2 RAM, and the Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 can RUN WORLD OF WARCRAFT AT MAXIMIMUM SETTINGS? WoW says that it only requires a 64 MB video card, but some people say otherwise... CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME BEFORE I PURCHASE THIS COMPUTER!?!?

    Thank you,

    James

You'd probably get a better answer in the "Can My Notebook Run it?" thread, but to answer your question, the "64mb card" is the minimum system requirements, which is the minimum required for WoW to even run at lowest settings. To max out WoW with the newest patch has become quite difficult.

You'll probably be able to run it, but you definitely won't max it. Try lowest settings and resolution first. An integrated card isn't meant for anything big.

    Aren't those desktop GPUs?

You'd get a better response at desktopreview.com if they are, but I'll answer your question anyways.

The 8500 GT will outperform the X3100 by a huge margin.

I used to have a laptop with a 6150M which is a generation behind the 7150 and i was surprised how many games i could play well with it,usually not on high settings but they still played well nonetheless.

Reading through this whole thread, I think a lot of people don't quite realize what can be considered good for a casual gamer.

If you guys think that having 20 fps is unplayable, obviously you have never tried to play a game using a low spec machine. The desktop I use now (my family desktop), is a Dell Dimension 3000. It has 512mb RAM, 80gb hard drive, Pentium 4 processor and Intel Extreme Graphics 2. I'm using XP home edition.

Running World of Warcraft on the lowest possible settings gets me a frame rate of roughly 15-20 fps. Easily playable, and I can deal with the graphics being choppy and whatnot (I still enjoy games from the N64/PSX era where all the graphics were that bad).

Now, I plan on buying a laptop with 3gb RAM, 250gb hard drive (though, hard drive space isn't really that important to me, I'm doing fine sharing 80gb with 4 other people), Pentium Dual Core T2390 processor, and X3100 graphics. I'm thinking that with this, I can keep the 15-20fps rate while boosting the settings up to above normal.

15-20 fps (as long as it remains constant and doesn't spike, like it does for me on my desktop during peak hours), is perfectly fine for a casual gamer.

15~20 games is pretty darn painful. 25+ is reasonable I'd say. Even for a "casual gamer".

Really, it also depends on what game and how responsive that game is. If your WoW plays at 15 fps but is snappy in its response times then you may be able to tolerate it. Shooters need higher framerates, RTS games need less, mmorpgs in between.

Meh, it's only during peak hours or in high-traffic areas that the framerate starts to slow down enough to make it choppy. Even with my ridiculously low spec desktop, I can still appreciate the beauty of the graphics. So what if it's a little rough? I can still see what they were trying to show, and that's what counts for me.

Light games, non-FPS games, and old games will run okay on it, but more demanding games will run poorly - Intel X3100 is an integrated graphics chipset that plays video and runs most applications fine, but performs poorly in more demanding modern games.

Hi, I had to register only to let people know of my discoveries with the x3100.
I consider myself an "old time gamer" therefore play ut2k4, wc3, starcraft and others. To get the best out of any games you will play with the x3100 ( at least , with the ones I've stated ) you'll need to run it with software TnL , and If able to, software VS .
Here's my settings and the games config.

    Intel Dual Core 1.66ghz
    2gig ram
    x3100
    Vista Ultimate x64 ( 64 bit )
    Latest Intel Graphics Accelarator Drivers

---- How to run any games with software TnL ----

    1. Right-click on the desired game desktop link
    2. Properties
    3. On the target line you should see something like this : "C:\Program Files (x86)\Warcraft III\Frozen Throne.exe"

-Add to this after the last " -swtnl

Now it should look like this : "C:\Program Files (x86)\Warcraft III\Frozen Throne.exe" -swtnl

    4. Apply/Ok

    ----

Doing this should give you a significant boost to any older games you folks like to play. It might also work with some recent games too.

    ---- SPECIAL UT2K4 Settings ----

As I was reading this board, I came accross someone that was talking about UT2K4 amazing range of custom settings, so I went on and check , tested, and came to the result that there's a lil tweak you can do to boost those framerates!!!!

    Go to your UT2k4 Folder/System

    Open UT2004.ini with notepad

    Search for UseHardwareTL=True and UseHardwareVS=True

    Change both value to =False
( You need to change to value in 2 places )
    Save & Exit

There you go ! I'm running at almost everything maxed and tested a Single Lan game in DM-Gael with 16 bots ( There's a good bunch of rockets being fired in that stage, wich IMO seems to stress the game enough to see if the framerates your at is playable )

    Hope this helps!
    Cheers

Guys im a x3100 user and im quite happy with its performance on a few games. games i just played recently on it are Half life 2 (high settings) laggless, counter strike source (high lagless), cod 4(25-30 fps) and playing fear 2 though its laggy but quite playable. The game i was particularly disappointed was with FIFA 09. It works fine 45-50 mins in a match, but becomes really unplayabe after that. havent tried the NvIDIA 7150 so wont comment on that!
