Along with the recent "Haswell" 4th-generation Core processors, Intel also introduced no less than SIX variations of Intel HD Graphics. Although I know the 'Iris' 5000-series are much better performers than the lesser 4000-series, it has still been very confusing to me and pretty much everyone else! Trying to figure out why one version comes with a certain processor while a seemingly lesser processor might have a better version of the Intel graphics.....it was really driving me nuts!

I no longer felt very confident making purchase and/or performance recommendations to folks on here and other tech sites because of my confusion. So I finally decided that I was going to try to figure out the basic differences and logic behind it all today (or as much as I could learn before throwing my Dell Latitude 6430u accross the room in a fit of rage)! =)

Said 6430u is thankfully intact and here's what I have to share. If any of the info is incorrect, please let me know and share the correct info and a link to support your info would also be great!

Great summary. Plus as far as I know Iris and Iris Pro are only on embedded CPU's not socketed ones. And actually I think ONLY the HD 4600 is used in a socketed CPU, all the rest are embedded.
