Hey has anyone tried the new brothers in arms hells highway? Does it work? fps?
-
-
Can anyone tell me what performance is like with the following games?
Age of Empires II
Max Payne
Deus Ex
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Counter Strike: Source
Live for Speed -
Max Payne - runs well
Deus Ex - runs well, UT games are CPU driven so will run as long as you have a fast CPU.
GTA: SA - runs ok, will be alright if you're a casual gamer
CS: Source "playable" but not smooth, and once again, if you're any kind of serious gamer it's not going to cut it -
OK, somes games I have played in your list:
Max Payne (both 1 and 2): run at more than 24fps at max setting, but some time you will encounter BSOD in both games.
Grand Theft Auto San Andreas: I always run at highest setting (no AA). The games is always around 20fps, but with the new driver you will find that many buildings and blocks become PINK.
Counter Strike: Source: Run at highest setting with around 24fps. -
Thanks! Why do the building become pink in GTA: SA? Do you run XP dukka? And any ideas on AoE II?
-
AOE2 is a very old game so it runs at full speed (tried in xp)
-
Sweet
how will GTA: SA etc run on low and medium settings?
-
I´ll have to stick with mine too (1-2 years) but as Apple, I´ll change for a nVidia/AMD ASAP
-
Is anybody else experiencing problems with the X3100 control panel in Vista using the latest drivers? It seems that none of the video overlay settings work. Are they supposed to adjust on the fly as you move the sliders? Im not talking about Color Correction but the Video Overlay settings at the bottom of the panel. Any ideas?
-
Lol AOE2 is a 2D game for crying out loud.
-
It's OK anyway cos I'm not getting a laptop with a X3100 in anymore
-
I play CS:S in vista with the newest drivers and with a little tweaking I can get an average of 35-40 fps in maps like Crackhouse -- it peaks at around 90. This is however with medium-low settings. 1024x768 but it is definitely playable. I was actually surprised. With no tweaks or setting changes on after installing steam and running the video stress test, I got an average of about 32fps in that test. So it works....not the best, but it works pretty well

latest x3100 drivers on intel now stresses the cpu even the pc is idle.
mooler, what did you tweak in the x3100? wanna know, if ther is.
-
It's the right choice to make if you wanna do some gaming
By the way, I'd also like to know why the building in GTA become pink, luckily I had beaten the game before installed the new driver. -
i get an average of 41 FPS in the CSS stress test. I can tune into 50ish but than i get very bad graphic
-
Still ive had some decent gaming with it, if 04/05/early-06 started running reasonably at Low-Medium settings with a PLAYABLE and SMOOTH FPS then i would be more than happy.
Also, how are the new drivers? -
Yeah, I'm getting a Toshiba with an ATi Radeon HD 3100 in, alot better than the X3100
should be here any minute. Don't think I'll have any problems playing the games I listed on max settings
-
Counter-strike 1.6 I get about 50FPS... Anyone know the fix for this? (I have current drivers, etc.)
Vista x64, T5250, 4GB of RAM -
whats there to fix? 50fps is more than playable
-
i didnt tweak anything on the x3100, just some game settings and a custom config file i downloaded.
http://forums.pureoverclock.com/showthread.php?t=16
you can try that. There are even more config tweaks you can find. Just do a google search for CSS Config tweaks or CSS config files. They're out there. -
This game is over 10 years old.. It should be capable of getting 100FPS easy..
-
you clearly know nothing about the X3100...
-
No need to read 120 some pages. This sentence explains the situation. Awesome!
-
Anyone tried Fallout 3? I heard that the graphics engine is a modified version of the oblivion one. I could play oblivion on about mid-low so i'm guessing that this may run at a reasonable fps....anyone?
-
Would be interesting to know. From what i've heard the engine was pretty optimized.
-
from a thread in bethesda forum, I've forgotten the link, I heard that it may run Fallout 3 but it will be like a slideshow.
-
Is there really no hope for this GPU? I've tweaked every setting available in the latest driver, used software T&L and have gotten to know the entire half life one engine inside out but I can't seem to get CS 1.6 at playable framerates in D3D or OpenGL even at 640x480.. sure it can hit 100fps staring at a wall but the lows are so frequent, random and unbearably choppy it's literally torture
any time a grenade goes off while in OpenGL mode the game can drop from 100fps down to 5 until the animation is over and flashlights have a similar crippling affect (untested but gl_monolights 1 might be a temporary solution to this problem)
The actual game engine is over 12 years old.. even my old super budget Duron 900 with an integrated GF2MX can pull a steady 90-100fps without any input lag in OpenGL yet this struggles like nothing I've ever witnessed. From where I'm sitting it looks to be a driver issue because the hardware is more than capable, it has a core clock more than twice as high my old GF2 as and utilises DDR2 rather than SDRAM so what's else could be the problem? -
If it's cs 1.6, then how can the framerate be reduced to 5fps? I play it everyday in my place, setting to 1280x800 and openGL and the framerate never reduce to below 30fps even when I'm on the cs_deathmatch with my teamates throwing smoke grenade like eggs.
-
Is there any driver for Vista and Worms World Party. Or another solution? I couldn't work with X3100.
It comes a black screen and application crash report.
Sorry for bad english. -
Officially, the X3100 sucks, period. It doesn't perform well in modern games(that its supposedly designed for), and doesn't perform well in older games because its a new architecture. The driver blows, and the hardware sucks.
The X3100 hardware is not as powerful as many think. The 667MHz core(I'm talking about desktop X3000/X3500 for reference) is only the shader clock. The part where it pushes out pixels runs at something like ~400MHz. That'd mean mobile part goes to 500MHz for shader and 300MHz for the rest.
Your super demanding modern game will run at 500MHz but it'll run slow because it lacks pure shader horsepower, and your older game will run slow because the clock speed is lower and older games like fixed function shaders over unified shaders. Add to unoptimized drivers that probably take a lot of CPU power just idling, and you have the X3100. -
Lol

very well said, bravo
-
I don't know about your x3100, but mine doesn't take too much cpu power idling... in fact at idle, it only shows 2% of cpu power.
-
i cant believe this thread is still open...almost 300,000 views...wow
ill say this again: if you want to game in 3D AT ALL
DONT GET THIS GPU
there are no fixes, and no solutions, it just sucks, dont support Intel by buying laptops with this GPU because that just encourages them to make ****ty graphics adapters -
Fallout 3 works at lowest settings at about 10-15 fps, not really playable unless your really patient......the game has heaps of bugs and you need to tweak some of the .ini settings.... also CoD5 beta works about about 10-15 fps also not really playable hopefully when the release version is out it will play better.
-
I agree, but I think this thread should exist so that people that already has this GPU (which I believe there are many) can share information about its performance in games, apps...
By the way, RA3 works at lowest setting at about 7 to 25 fps, but since it's a RTS it can still be playable to some person. -
Yes, there should be a warning: Don't consider buying X3100 or related GPUs if you intend to game.
Personally I'm not gaming at all, but I agree that information about what games run at what resolutions and framerates would be very valuable.
There was once this thread, but unfortunately closed due to some people posting misinformation:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=148045
There's another thread beside this one here that contains some benchmarks for certain driver revisions (most of you know this one):
http://www.computerbase.de/forum/showthread.php?t=309411
I'd like to see a Wiki for these kinds of things:
a) drivers, revisions, features, changelogs, pitfalls and where to get them
b) driver installation instructions for those with branded notebooks
c) pages for specific games: benchmarks and recommended settings
d) tuning: The SW/HW T&L thing
e) links to reviews and forums
I would post on topics a), b), d) and e).
I wouldn't post this information on someone's private Wiki, since I don't know how long it would live there. If I put some effort in writing up information, I'd like to have it stay online for a while. I don't prefer blogs or websites, since those are edited only by one person.
Any suggestions about potential wikis? There isn't an NBR wiki, is there? What's your opinion on this matter? -
i manage to get average 50 FPS in CSS now 1024x768 with the laptop in my spec. With a 20 people server it never goes below 30 and usually stays between 40-60. With few players on the server i get up to 80 FPS
-
Well this thread is good enough, if it's sticky it's better, and if there's even a wiki for the x3100, it's best. But it's just too much favor for this x3100 since it will be completely replace someday. I think we just keeping and posting useful inf on the x3100 on this thread is okay and don't make it dead like its predessors.
-
Just got myself mount and blade, will try it on this laptop
-
PES (pro evolution soccer) 2009 is playable at the lowest setting at 640x480, if you increase to medium quality, the games will run at around 15 - 30fps, mostly playable but it pretty slowdown in critical situation when a lot of players are around like corner kick, free kick, but the graphic quality is much better.

new drivers for vista x64
15.11.4.1591 -
the zip file version once again contains a few zipped bios files for developers, and a few newer files in the drivers themselves (November instead of October dated) compared to the exe release of the same version.
However the zip version flat out refuses to install on my system now, the exe version installed just fine.
I had uninstalled previous drivers then tried the zip ver, then installed the exe ver and after tried to install the zip ver, same failure notice:
"'this computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software, setup will exit" -
The .zip version contains a file installation_readme.txt. There is a section "MANUAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS / Microsoft Windows Vista "HAVE-DISK" Installation Instructions" Step 1. - 11.
If you follow these instructions precisely and don't take any short cuts, I'm pretty sure it installs one your machine as well. However since the .exe version worked for you there's nothing to worry about. -
How bad is the x3100 really? I'm really hesitant to pick up this one notebook cuz it has an x3100 and I just can't make up my mind. It would only be used for Vista obviously and some occasional HD movie playback. No games except like little mini games here and there or whatever. Will it be fine?
-
If you only go for small games, movies playback and vista, the x3100 should be okay, but in case you can find a laptop with ATI HD3200 or Nvidia or even x4500 with the same price is better.
Well, sad news is COD5, even the requirement is the same with COD4 but it's totally unplayable with 5 to 7 fps even at the lowest setting
-
How did COD4 perform in your computer? Did you tried using the COD4's ini file in COD5 (since they use the same engine, should work) to see if the performance problem is related to the configuration?
-
Thanks for the info on the new drivers... gunna test em out now.... & Quantum of Solace is pretty **** playable (Multiplayer Wise).. cuz its cod4 engine.. its very tweakable....& i got it running from about 20-35 FPS... avg about 28 FPS.. but theres a trick to the config... cuz it doesn't let u tweak the config... its encrypted... the demo i was able to tweak it but the full game no.... so i had to create a bat file... from a txt file... example:
open notepad... & paste this.. save it as watever...ex.. start.txt
"C:\Program Files\Activision\Quantum of Solace(TM)\JB_Launcher_s.exe" + seta r_rendererInUse "Shader model 2.0"
than rename it as start.bat... & start the game....
if u want my config... let me no & ill post it up.... -
cod 5 runs about the same as cod4... which in my opinion was playable in multiplayer... but mainly on custom maps...
Intel X3100 users rejoice! It's finally here! New Pre-Beta Drivers
