Topic says it all. I'm very lost when it comes to comparing graphics cards, so I'm wondering if either is particularly better. I know it won't be a an ideal gaming laptop with integrated graphics, but I'm not much for games with pretty graphics. (I might try out Knights of the Old Republic, but if it doesn't work too well I can live with that.) Thanks for any advice you can offer.

No contest. They're not even in the same class.

7000m can have up to 896mb turbocache (on certain models only) while the x3100 has 8mb Guarenteed UMA with 350mb dynamic memory. The Nvidia option would be much better choice

While I agree with the "no contest" part, may I ask what classes they are in then?

I thought they were both low end integrated gpus? Where else would you categorize these two in?

Some games the Intel wins, some games the nVidia wins. Google search for benchmarks with these cards on your favourite games and see which option would be best for you.

Thanks guys. I was debating between a couple laptops and you helped me decide. (I finally got this thing ordered after months of waiting for the right sale!)

Now, for my curiosity... My older (desktop) PC had an old 64MB GeForce2 MX400 in it and I found that to be mostly adequate for my purposes. I at least know enough to know that's not quite a top-of-the-line card anymore (if it was to begin with), and am curious how the 7000M compares? You guys'll probably laugh at me, but my element is CPUs, not GPUs, so please bare with me. :) I know a series 7 GPU will naturally support more features than one from way back in '01, but what about its plain old speed?

(In my own defense, I did try to find my own benchmarks to compare the two, but it's hard to find a common benchmark for two GPUs that were made 6 years apart.)

Should run a ton faster, especially with all laptop components themselves being high-end compared to the days when the MX400 was useful.

It's what this laptop lists in its specifications.
