This is more out of curiosity more than anything. I'm just wondering if the latest integrated graphics chipset is actually more powerful than my old 64Mb Geforce 4 Ti4200?
-
i have never heard of the Ti4200, so i would say the x3100 would woop its butt.
-
i would say that the x3100 should beat the ti4200 considering how aged that technology is compared to x3100

I wouldn't be so sure that the X3100 is faster... the Ti 4200 does have a lot of processing power. I remember it played Far Cry fairly well, something I don't think the X310O will do that well.
If you're looking to upgrade from your Ti then I don't think the X3100 is going to do it for you. -
GF4 Ti is a DX8 card. Intel X3100 is DX10.
The GF4 card won't be able to have all the eyecandy enabled, but I still think it's a faster card. -
oh man i remember when alienware was sporting the TI series. at that time i didnt even have a dedicated gpu in my computer. oh yeah

Go for the X3100.

I think in terms of raw power it is a little faster than a stock Ti4200:

hahaha........theres no comparison.
I had a GeForce MX 4000 and it cant run anything!!!! Atleast the X3100 can run the latest games man.
the Ti4200 isnt even able to run Splinter Cell Chaos Theory and Pandora Tomorrow!!!!!!!............and even Godfather The Game -
The GF4 wins. -
Thanks for the replies everyone. I don't have my Ti4200 anymore, I upgraded it to a 7600gt earlier this year. I was merely curious to see if intel's latest offering could rival the midrange card of four generations ago. I dug up some specifications on the two cards:
The Ti4200 has 2 vertex shaders and 4 pixel pipelines and has a memory bandwidth of 8GB/s.
The X3100 has 8 shader units and a memory bandwidth of 12.8GB/s.
It seems like the X3100 is just slightly faster from these specifications although I couldn't get access to things like texture fill rate and ROPs which also influence performance. Besides, the desktop 8600GT has more shader units than the 7600GT has pixel/vertex shaders but is only just barely faster.
By the way, I'm only 18 too. I got my Ti4200 when I was about 11. I even remember my older geforce 3 ti200. -

I've got a MX 440 here and I can run Half-Life 2 smoothly with low settings @1024x768.
-
I have a Geforce Ti4200... haha. I can run CoH at 1024x768 at low, with no more than 2v2 in general.
-
low settings??
wow at least mine goes to med which means intel would go higher..... -
Geforce Ti4200 > X3100. Any day.
The X3100 is integrated so it's crap. Try running an older game that was a performance hog during its time. CnC Generals for example. The Geforce Ti4200 will smoke the X3100.
BTW, I'm saying this because I used to have a Geforce 4 Ti4200. It was very fast back then, around 4-5 years ago. Athlon 1200 Mhz, 512 Mb DDR, Geforce 4 Ti4200 128 Mb AGP 8x, 60 Gb Seagate Barracuda 7200 rpm was my desktop at that time. XD Plays games way better than any Intel GMA950 I've tried. -

I can still play modern games on it, on low-medium settings with decent FPS. -

There is no point directly comparing the X3100 and the Ti4200 in games, because they will most likely be running different code paths. While the Ti4200 would default to easier DX8 code, the X3100 will default to DX9 code. If they were both running DX8 code and the X3100 finally has it's hardware features unlocked, I wouldn't doubt that the X3100 would be faster, if only because it has twice the clock speed. Besides, if you were just comparing against an old Ti4200 rig, the other system components like the CPU, buses, and HDD have progressed quite a bit in the last few years. Decreased game loading times from faster hard drives along my make the gaming experience feel better.
