Hi, My laptop;Intel gma 950 chip, Core Duo processor (1.86,1.87 ghz) 2GB of ram

Well it's not running games like it used to. I'm getting around 7FPS in WoW, and fable barely runs at all. Just a few days ago I was running wow at constant ~25 FPS and fable was just fine.

I'm not sure what the problem could be. Virus spyware scan came up with nothing, I've tried downloading the latest drivers, system restore everything. Still, no improvement.

Speedfan says my CPU is running at ~90C isn't that a little high? My fan also is not as loud as it used to be and to be honest I can't tell if it's on or not.

    Any suggestions?

Sounds like a dead fan, if you are still under warranty it should be covered.
If you aren't under warranty, there are two options:
    • Find out the fans part number, buy one online and put it in yourself
    • Take it to a repair centre and have the fan replaced
Obviously doing it yourself will be cheaper, but it depends on how comfortable you are taking apart the notebook.

I suggest you use the monitoring page of RMClock to watch the CPU speed and temperature. The GMA950 uses the CPU for much of its work and if the CPU is getting too hot (due to suspect fan problem) then it may be throttling.

If it isn't under warrenty, I'll probably do it myself. How do I go about finding the part number? and any helpful tips/suggestions?
Also if its under warranty, would opening it void it? Their isn't a circuit city here so I'd have to drive ~2.5 hours to take it in.

Toshiba satellite p205 - s6267 is the model number.

Considering the P205 was only released this year, it should still be under warranty. I'm not sure how Toshiba operate in the U.S, but in New Zealand they have free pickup and drop off.
With the notebook being in warranty, it will almost definitely be voided if you open as far as the fan.

If you decide to replace the fan yourself (the best way to get the part number is to look on the fan itself), here is a guide to disassembly:

    Good luck

    Dead fan I guess....

I have 1.66ghz and gma950 and play Garrys Mod single player on high... if I dont do too much crap in it... I usually get ~50fps and when under construction of things it dips to ~14fps but the average is in the 20's 30's

I never tried WoW on my lappie... but im sure it would run fine... since its.... wow... duh... lol

Serial BS as usual, game crashes on your system according to your last bogus claim when you use those settings.

For the OP: Check your fan, 90 degrees is unusually hot and something could well be blocking the vents. It's unlikely software is causing your problem unless you mistakenly told speedfan to lower your PC fan speed by accident.

Same old bull**** screenshots as the last time you tried the stunt with your quake wars thread. As many have mentioned before a screenshot of your settings page is required to prove what you posted is supposedly on "high". Why is it that your mod only ever shows one item on screen and a lot of flat textures?

Another thing to the OP: If you're running Notebook hardware control could you check to see you're not leaving the setting on battery mode? That will downclock your processor which does no favours to performance. Make sure you clean out the vents as well with compressed air before thinking about a fan replacement.

On which the framerate counter mysteriously and conveniently disappeared. Beatsiz, stop hijacking threads and disseminating false information.

To the OP: it almost certainly sounds like your fan is failing or blocked. The TJunction on the Core 2 is 100C, I believe, so if you're idling at 90C you're in trouble.

Thanks for that lowly marine. If the convo regarding GMA950 fps is continued the thread will be locked. Please don't ruin this for the OP who is asking a simple question.

The GMA950 can run WoW fine, not at max but fine so no debate there, I've seen it do it.

I agree with the broken fan. Could be blocked cooling but if it's a sudden change fan is more likely. Another poster mentioned that the P205 is under a year old. I'd find the documentation that went with it and find the warranty details and contact Toshiba ASAP.

    yep
usual temperature would be for cpu is around 35 (fan on high using fan control) to 60 (on load). 90 is rough... when it says 90 tried touching left side of the keyboard and if you sense more heat than you used to have. i would guess like everyone else: fan problem

LOL. You also said your gma950 could run the Orange Box maxed out at 1280x800. And countless other ridiculous claims such as running bioshock and far cry at high settings.

Honestly, you might as well stop lying since no one is going to believe you. Or find someone who has no clue about computers and boast all you want about your nuclear-powered gma950.

    :D
