A few days back I was looking for a notebook with some powerful graphic cards and fast processor but now due to some financial issue going for a more basic laptop.
I am thinking about the Bestbuys new Dell Inspiron Laptop with Intel® Core2 Duo Processor T6400 Model: I15-157B for $599.99. It comes with Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD with up to 384MB (shared) as Video memory.
What kind of games I can play on this machine? I
am crazy about the classic games like Command & Conquer series (1, 2, Red Alert etc.) so can this machine manage the new C&C 3 and Red Alert 3 type of games?
Got to say that even now I am playing the old games, havent been able to catch up with the new stuff from over 6 years.
Also if possible then please do give me the names of good action and strategy games that are suitable for such laptop.
Thanks.

Yes it can handle those 'older' games just fine.
-
It can play anything right now (except maybe Crysis), just don't expect high graphics.

thanks guys for the info - by any chance is it possible for any one to confirm that the laptop can actually play the Command & Conquer 3, Red Alert 3, Commandos 3 and Prince of Persia (new version)???

please read the GPU Guide
the Intel 4500 should not be worth considering for gaming purposes.... light or old games... then yes.
latest games... you should look towards an Nvidia or ATI card.... even a integrated ATI/Nvidia will crush the Intel 4500.
Maybe you should fill out the FAQ and we can give you better suggestions.... mainly the budget. -
Gophn a very helpful reply, really thanks buddy.

I was able to play C&C 3 on my Eee PC with GMA 950 and 1.6GHz Atom, at 1024x600 with minimum settings if that's any consolation. So I'm assuming the X4500 which is significantly faster, and coupled with a Core 2 Duo I'm sure you'll be perfectly fine.
The integrated GPU's, X4500 especially, are very capable GPU's if you manage your video settings and resolution accordingly. No, it won't get you 200 frames per second with Crysis, but should run most newer games at low, even some medium, settings at 1280x800 with a reasonable fps.
Game developers need money, and therefore have been doing fairly well to develop for the least common denominator. In most cases this means a laptop with integrated GPU. No you won't get max settings, but it will run, play, and look fine at lower settings. If you're a graphics whore, well then, get a more powerful GPU. But since you like classic games, that PC should suffice.
That being said, if you can afford maybe $100 more or so you should be able to score a PC with at least an 8400m GS dedicated GPU. -
htwingnut really thanks for making my day
honestly you really cleared my doubts about the laptop that I am getting, I am not a big gamer or any hardcore graphic guy. Just someone who wants to play some decent game once in a while.
I really wanted to buy the Asus N80Vn-GP011C that is currently for $1100 (excluding shippment) but honestly cant afford it, there is one another Asus laptop with Nvidia 9600 GS in Bestbuy, it looks cool but some didnt clicked me.
So now going for the Dell I15-157B which is something very basic but in my reach. -
