Hello there, guys! I hope I've found the right place to ask, cuz this is pretty weird.
Here's my story. I have a GMA X3100 IGP in my laptop, which I bought about 2 months ago (I put the spec in my sig). Now, I wanted to keep the driver up to date, so I downloaded the latest driver for XP Professional 32-bit edition from Intel's website. I use my laptop for my school tasks mostly, but I also keep some games in it. Not anything too demanding, I assure you. It was games like The Sims 2, Spore, Warcraft 3, CS 1.6, GTA San Andreas, and such. They all ran fine, especially old games like Warcraft 3.
However, once I installed the latest driver, Warcraft became unplayable. When I tried to enter the Single Player mode, it freezes, and about a minute after, it crashed to my desktop. My resolution was then forced to 640x480 (from the usual 1280x800) in 4-bit depth! A message followed, saying something like 'the driver has stopped working', and I couldn't change back into my native resolution, even after I reboot my laptop. So, I uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it again, which automatically gave me back my native res and color depth.
This happened twice, and I thought that I must have installed it incorrectly. But when I checked in Device Manager, it showed the right version. AND the other games worked perfectly, if not better. I noticed that I can now play Spore in my native res (it was 800x600 before) and medium settings, which is a pretty significant gain. So I think this could be a compatibility issue. Can anyone give me a workaround to solve this? I really want to play my Warcraft 3....

if neither driver of the two works for you, use an even older driver that gives you what you need, at one time I had like 20 different driver installer programs on my desktop until I found tthe one that was best for ALL my games, or use a hacked driver though I don't use intel cards, can someone point him to a good hacked driver site for intel drivers?
-
I googled 'intel gma x3100 hacked driver', but was unable to find a site offering downloadable hacked drivers. So I think I'll wait for people to give me a nice site.
Anyway, when googling around, I noticed that there are several other threads in this site about Intel's driver crashing frequently. I hate to say this, but Intel needs to refine its drivers if it wants to stay in the big fight.... seriously, even my old GeForce 4000MX had better stability than this. -
how many times did people discuss about this problem on this forum? U can try to create a shortcut, and add -opengl or -swtnl in the target box of the shortcut. Or better to find the 14.33 version, it is the last one that will work with Warcraft 3.

What dukka said.
I personally prefer software tnl atm. -
Tried both. Doesn't work.
But maybe it's me typing the code incorrectly? When I typed it, it looked like:
"C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\war3.exe" -opengl
or
"C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\war3.exe" -swtnl
Should there be a space between the original target and -opengl?
Intel's new driver freezes my Warcraft 3!
