How will GRID run on the X4500 (at what FPS)?
    Is it > 5 or 10?

Ok ok, since I use this forum alot and I red this topic with interest, I decided to sign up and help a bit.

I have a Toshiba l300 with a x4500. It runs with an Celeron [email protected], here are some experiences:

    Vista Basic:
Everything ran pretty smooth, until I started to install some games. Guild Wars had a nice framrate, but when I installed WoW it had 1fps!! Basicly, I use this laptop for Uni and MMO's. For more intense games I use my 360.
I thought that was pretty odd, since my Ibook g4 1442 with 32MB integrated Graphic Memory runs WoW with 20-25fps. So I blamed Vista.

    OpenSuSe & Ubuntu:

Forget it, I'm not a person that's able to rewrite a kernel. If you are the same, don't try to install it.

    Dream Linux:

Works pretty good, until I tried to use Compiz Fusion.

So there is a more basic option - XP

    Windows XP:
I have 7CD with XP on it and they all gave the 0x0000007B error code. A friend of my did something with my XP CD so it would boot with the right HD drivers (he said that was the problem) and XP is running like hell.

    Guild Wars 50fps
    WoW 30-40fps

Like someone pointed out before, who buys a x4500 for crysis? The same for Fallout 3 and GRID. Why spend over 300 euro's more, while you can buy a 360 for 150 euro and play all new games?

This post is written on a 4 year old Ibook PPC running Leopard ) Laptops can reach the age of 5 years.

I have the dv4-1028us with the x4500mhd. so far I've played HL2, battlefield 2, warcraft 3, and sim city 4. All around 25 to 30 fps at the lowest. Average is 30+. 3dmark06 score 1030. I also get 50+ playing CS:S I've had no compatability issues except with half life 2. I had to switch to 32 bit mode because objects were not rendering correctly from a distance in 64 bit mode. they were turning a grey color instead of just fading. switching to launch in 32 bit mode fixed this. I'm not even sure if this was a problem with x4500 or not but thought I should share anyway. Other than that, I've had 0 problems and 100 percent fun playing all the other games I listed.

I was nervous after seeing all the negative posts about the IGP all over the place, but I feel the reviews are either exagerated (negativley) or my graphical standards are really low. (probably the latter)

The HD4500 isn't a gaming card, but it can certainly run older stuff. I mean, I ran The Sims 2, Warcraft 3 and Guild Wars on a GMA945 >.>

When people say it's not meant for gaming, the term gaming refers to recent games, which the HD4500 cannot handle.

That being said, it can still run and play older games. Heck, the HD3200 surprised everyone with the range of games it could run and the 9400M GS is supposedly better sooo.

The IGPs are getting better with every generation, just as the dedicated GPUs are so don't be surprised if eventually a future IGP can pack the power of a mid-range card from today lol :p

If you're an engineer, I'd imagine the workload to tax the CPU more than the GPU AFAIK. However, I really think that if you're going to use it for 5 years you should pick up a notebook with at least a midrange dedicated graphics card.

By the end of the 5 year period the performance should still be about par with the lowest end integrated, and you'll get to enjoy any potentially fun new games out in the future.

Would anyone happen to know how the 4500MHD compares to the Nvidia Go 7150?
