Since there are 9800m gt and 9800m GTX SLI in the market. Is 8800m GTX SLI worthless now? Or still it has some features worth selecting it while buying a new laptop rather than selecting 9800m?
Thanks

if it is then im gunna cry.....i only have a single 8800m gtx
ok, i dont think its worthless but if u can afford it u might as well get the best u can buy -
This thread is worthless.
8800M GTX is not worthless, it's still one of the most powerful cards available on the market, it's functionally equivalent to the 9800M GT, which would mean that it's only currently bettered by its big brother, the 9800M GTX.
Yes, if you can get the 9800M GT or GTX SLI for around the same price or less, do so by all means. These new cards, however, do not render the 8800M GTX WORTHLESS or POINTLESS. -
The 8800m GTX's are not worthless nor weak, say, in today's terms, the 8800m GTX is the 2nd most powerful graphics card for a laptop by Nvidia, even though they were released in 2007, they still pack quite a punch and can play most games at the highest settings at 1920x1200 with over-decent framerates.

In notebooks, it will stay one of the best for a while still. Like he said, 8800M GTX = 9800M GT. I can attest to its beastliness.
-
8800m-GTX = 9800m-GT
i don't understand why people cannot grasp this. -
Yes but everyone knows computer hardware becomes obsolete, left behind, a dinosaur when it's 2 years old compared to the new tech that comes out. I'd just say, especially for gaming, you need to stay on the cutting edge, since you don't want to get left behind by the newest most demanding software (games). I'd spend my hard earned money on state of the art.
-
Actually, haha, the 8800M GTX is about 2 years and old and it's still alive and kickin'. Plus, we can overclock later for a little more power in the future.

I would also add that drivers out now are optimised delivering one the the best performance out there.
This happen because it's "aged" and given its diffusion (8800gtx and 9800gt). -
spradhan don´t you have an XPS M1730 8800m GTX SLI? If so what are you afraid of, 8800m GTX SLI kicks butt and a 9800m GTX is not much faster than a 8800m GTX, 96 SP´s vs 112 SP´s. Not worth the money in my opinon. If it would have been 128 SP´s like the real 8800 GTX desktop and with a 384 Wide Bus and 768 MB Memory it would be worth it, but now not at all.

stop encouraging people by posting answers in these "hey guys im too lazy to search so ill just make a new thread" threads -
Though I suppose this idea works if you're planning to upgrade and don't mind risking what you have. -
I thought this topic is quite worthless because you can find out the answer yourself by visiting Nvidia's website and looking at the specs.
-
one quick one, there are no benchmarks comparing 9800m gts and 8800m gts. is there a big difference?
-
-
look, if 7950m gtx still performs rather well in new games, what do you think about 8800m gtx then?!
-
Yeah I agree it´s a worthless thread. I mean just look at some benchmarks. Some GPU that is unnecessery is the 9800m GTX in my opinion. I mean what the hell increase the shaders from 96 to 112 pffft! Nvidia should have gone all the way through 128 SP´s instead.

Mr._Kubelwagen More machine now than man
To OP: Yes, 8800m SLI is worthless now. In fact you should trash your now-outdated laptop and grab something with SLI 9800m's. You'll probably notice a huge performance increase in graphics-intensive games, like Peggle.
-
yeah the 7950gtx cards still rock most games, and two of them combined is about the same performance as a single 8800gtx, so no, the 8800gtx is far from worthless.
-
what about SLI 8700m gt to one 8800m gts?
-
Or better, hold a raffle for it on NBR, with that as at the prize.
SLI 8700M GT is better than 8800M GTS as I recall, and very similar to 9800M GT/8800M GTX. -
Not a problem at all if you're the type to give Us$50 tips to waiters, but It's always much more cost/benefit efficient if you keep yourself one or two steps behind the newest available piece of hardware. -
-
I'm going to go with it depends. If SLI scales well, SLI 8700M GT may beat the 8800M GTS, I know the 7950 GTX SLI can do so. -
7950 GTX is much better than the 8700 GT
