    Hello! I already have a gaming desktop without a g-sync monitor at 144hz, and I want to buy a gaming laptop for when I'm on the go. I wanted Sager/Clevo gaming laptops because you can customize them. But I can't decide whether or not G-Sync is worth an extra $80 on the laptop. I play games like CS:GO, BF4 and Overwatch currently and will I benefit from G-Sync on a competitive level? Thanks!

    If you're games run pretty much at your refresh rate them G-Sync won't really do much for you. So it depends on settings and the games you play. (1080@144 or 4k@60 or somewhere in between etc.)

    However, I think it also adds life to the laptop, and allows cranking up settings higher on games that you can't quite max out. Also it could help you in matches where the FPS drops for whatever reason, since you may maintain smoother gameplay.

    I won't be playing graphic intensive games tbh, though I will buy BF1 when it comes out and I dont know if I should get G-Sync for it. I will be on a 1080p screen with a 970M gpu. I wanna play these games on high unless the gpu can't handle it. So what do you think?

    For me personally, I would pay $80 to have the feature available to me if I ever needed it. It doesn't sound like you need it now at all, but you never know what will come out next and your laptop may only play it at 45fps on high, with gsync you can still have a very smooth experience.

    I realize you have a desktop, but if the need ever arose you could also play on your bigger screen with gsync at 144hz, which would be needed for many games with a single 970 I bet.

    Can you turn G-Sync off in laptops even if you have it?

    Yes, it's very simple to do from the Nvidia control panel.

    $80 is a small price to pay to ensure stable rendering. You may not need it, but as the notebook ages and games start getting more demanding it'll pay off

    @Kevin,

    Agreed. And for less than $100, no question.

    I wouldn't love any sleep over it. Half the time I've got it disabled anyway. Games that run at 30fps still look like a slideshow. I think for 4k it would make more sense when 60fps is a hard ask and only 50fps might be achievable.

    Disabled it from day one when owning the MSI GT72, the problem is that above the maximum refresh rate of the screen itself (75hz) g-sync turns into normal vsync. When playing doom with g-sync I immediately noticed it when it gave horrible input lag. So yeah it might not be a problem if you are using a 144hz desktop display, but it's rather pointless on a 75hz screen. And yes I know you can use a frameratelimiter but that induces lag as well

    What specs? Sure you don't want to wait for 1080M?

    If you turn vsync off in NCP it should switch to vsync off once the screens refresh rate has been hit the fps goes beyond. Eg. 75 fps + in your case.
    The transition is still jarring though and I'd argue the better experience overall is just having it off.
    I think your panels the same as mine. Try OCing it. I got lucky and can get 100hz from it.

    yeah, it's hard to notice classic vsync when you are on 100Hz

    I would - it actually convinced me to go with a G-Sync monitor outside of my laptop.
