I was considering getting Left 4 Dead 1 and 2. Is the single player any good? or is it all about multiplayer?

The single player campaign is the multiplayer. You can play offline with 3 other bot players, or go online with 3 human players. There are also other modes available in multiplayer.

In short, yeah, it's all about the multiplayer.

Both games are strongly geared toward teamwork, especially in the more difficult modes. Survival is greatly dependent on you and your teammates working together.

I agree with what the other players stated, but I would also like to add that playing it as a single player with the bots is still a lot of fun and you should do it before actually playing online so you get a feel for the game.

When playing a campaign I find the bots are better and more helpful than actual players a lot of the time. They always heal you and stick together which can't be said when playing online.

In vs. mode you never want bots on your team though... it basically means you are dead meat.

As mentioned it can go both ways. Bots are all about teamwork, but limited to their programming. Online players are not always about teamwork, but sometimes there are people who are really damn good haha. First time around, its up to you what you want to do, if playing with bots, you lead the way since they follow. With other players, they often lead the way if you don't know.

You can always join the NBR Steam group(I think) and find a group :)

Thanks guys. I guess I should have also asked, which is what I really wanted, is if there is a storyline with campaign, etc. Or is it just like the multiplayer where you just go and shoot things.

Storyline? L4D? Well zombies attack and you go through 5 levels to escape wherever humanity still rules. Repeat that in another 4 campaings with different environments and the storyline is pretty much completed.

I'm not sure if L4D2 added some extra story.

If you like story and SP then you are barking up the wrong tree imo. L4D is not about either of these things. If you want a creepy zombie shooter (or similar) with a story try these.

    Dead Space
    Res Evil 5
    Bioshock
    FEAR 1 & 2
    Doom 3
    Quake 4

Single player L4D2 is boring... you need to play online with others

Online play definately. I sometimes startup a server on Garena.

I suggest to pimp up the settings in your server.cfg or listenserver for an extreme gameplay. Personally, expert mode is just still too easy. My tank is over 200K health and megamobs spawn every 12 seconds.

Double the fun and install SM and MM and you can also get your mods from Alliedmodders and L4DToolz for 8 player Campaign or SuperVersus for 16 players.

L4D series is absolutely amazing. By far the best co-op experience anyone can have.

Playing with bots, is like playing Battlefield with bots. That's the extent of it.

The story is simple, you just have to survive...;D

I play it single player only, since I don't like online play, and its very fun.

I feel I'm missing all the other modes, though...
