Hi guys, I'm pretty new here myself, but I am getting ready to pre-order a Sager 9261, with the 8800m GTX in it, quad core, two separate OS, all the goodies, blah blah..

I read on xoticpc.com that the pricing for a single 8800m GTX is going to be around 800-900 dollars. Also, they mentioned that existing 9261 models will have to be sent back for a motherboard swap, due to compatibility issues.

Also, doing some looking around on nvidia.com, a single 8800m GTX has give or take 50% more power than two 8700m's. That's just a rough estimate, so don't light me up because of my crappy math :D

The main question is this: Given the price, and the statistics, and data provided, would it be advisable to buy only one 8800m GTX and then, once the hype (and the ridiculous price) die down, get another one? Is there really any game out now, save the obvious Crysis, that won't run well on just one?

    Thanks for reading!

Actually if you buy from Eurocom a very trusted Canadian reseller they have dual 8800GTX SLI for $1000.

alienware also has sli for 1000....furthermore, PC Microworks has the SLi for only 450. Eurocom is very good though. You can make them do anything to your notebook appearance wise and in some cases performance wise.

That eurocom link was very helpful, thanks.

As far as the pcmicroworks goes, I might be slow or something, but I saw the SLI option, and it said +900 or something like that

SLI is not necessary to enjoy games, but then again neither is an 8800GTX.

If your not going to go SLI then I honestly would be looking at other notebooks, i.e. thinner, smaller ones than the D901C beast.

Well I want to go SLI, but I'm just so damn cheap it's hard to convince myself that it's okay to spend 3-4 thousand dollars, lol.

I'll end up doing it anyway, it's only money, and the glorious satisfaction I will get from it will more than make up for the fact that my girlfriend left me. haha

    thanks guys

And yea I do think Sli 8800M is a good idea because I don't want to buy another laptop for years to come.

Pc Microworks seem to have the upper hand, pretty much the best price right now for the 8800M GTX.
But I have a feeling all that will change after the 6th of December... :) When Sager oficially starts selling laptops with the 8800M GTX...

I wrote an article on the effectiveness of SLI and whether it is worth getting, it should be posted on the front page soon. I urge you to wait for that.
