    Is STEAM really a good thing?

    I thought you need online activation anyway even with games on disc? Correct me if I'm wrong.

    Another support for steam, always get games when they have good deals or at Frys (and activate through steam)
    Orange Box - $20
    Bioshock - $15
    Prey - $5
    and so on, its great overall, only 2 complaints
    Alt - tab problems
    hl2.exe erros (not often, but every now and then)
    It is great, and I have had 0 problem playing games in offline mode

    Only some games need online activation (SecuROM games plus some others). Even then, only a tiny amount of data is actually transfered between the computer and the servers so people with slow internet service won't be adversely effected.

    i like steam.. wherever i go, whenever i get a new pc... all my games are available instantly without disks.

    Yeah, it's a pretty great thing. I remember when it was just Half-Life stuff.
