I have tried Vista on my E1705 since it came free when I purchased the laptop in November, however, I noticed some problems with Vista such as LAG in simple flash games and other tiny problems.

Therefore, I reinstalled Xp on my computer. Now, I know that 8800 Nvidia cards or better are some of the first cards to use Direct X 10, however, I wasn't sure if Vista was needed or not. I know I was told Vista was made with "games in mind" but does this mean Vista is required to run DX10?

    Any help please, thanks.

    Yes, DX10 is Vista-only.
For any game that uses OpenGL, this isn't a problem (OpenGL enables the same features as DX10, only it works under XP as well), but yes, DX10 only exists on Vista.

Then again, so far, the market isn't exactly flooded with DX10 games, so no need to panic just yet... ;)

Regardless, any 8800 is very powerful with DX9 in XP.

For all intensive purposes yes, there is emulation in the works, but you need a super computer to run it.

If your not a vista fan, but feel you may need it now and then, or atleast to keep familar with it. You can always setup a dual boot system.

I wonder whats going on with your lag issue tho, that sounds rather strange since your system is stronger than mine and I have none.

DX10 is currently only available on Vista....

however there is a group that is working on getting DX10 to be used in:
    - Linux
    - Windows XP
    - Mac OS

They are already in the Alpha stages.

    :D Alky Project :D

LOL. I think they worked that project from scratch... to help prevent any such lawsuits.

Dx 10= only available with Vista.

So far only a few games are known to have DX 10 capabilities (no worries, as the year comes closer to 2008, there will be lots of DX 10 games).

The ones that I know from me- Flight Simulator.lol

FSX still hasnt got the DX10 patch, alot of people are really mad at MS claiming "false advertisment" because the game box says DX10 on it or somthing and didnt mention the game doesnt come with DX10 support but its being added on as a patch :p

The last patch was awsome tho added support for multicore cpus and boost fps for alot of people as much as 50-100%

But if you only have the card in your sig (7900 GS) you needn't worry about this.

    What? building dx10 from scratch????

They are still using directx SDK, microsoft will then use something like that is our product blah blah blah to sue them.

    99% chance it won't happen.
