I want to get the game ArmA: Armed Assualt when it comes out early next year in the USA. The recommended setup is a 3GHz P4 with a Nvidia 6800 and 1GB Ram.
I'm not wise with computers but here is my question.
Will my 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo T7200 (2.00GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 667 MHz FSB) with 2GB Ram and a Nvidia Go 7400 (Dell M1210 notebook) fit these "recommended" requirements. I know I have the Ram covered, but i'm not sure about the processor or the video card.

Oh definitely! The 2.0GHz Core 2 is roughly as powerful as the non-existent 4GHz P4.

I don't know about the video card though. Check this website for more info: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest. If they list that game you'll get all the juicy dirt. -
Any Core Duo will run ArmA great. I'm going to run it on my lappy when my import copy arrives tomorrow.
Though, you wont run it at MAX settings with that GPU you have lined up. It, like my X1400, should do fairly decently at it, but you might have to drop view distance a little. -
-
Yeah, neither can I, it's like all my christmas' have come at once. I'll post up my experiences with how well it runs, and you can gauge how well it would perform on yours off that.

And to get you more hyped, check out this vid...

what is that game and what do you do on it?
-
It's called ArmA: Armed Assault. It's basically a realistic military simulation. The modern day sequel to Operation Flashpoint.
Hopefully it comes out in the USA early next year. -
Think the Iraq war, but onto your PC screen. You now have Arma.
-
Okay, prepare to be horrified.
The results are in, at the following settings, average ingame framerate = 17fps.
I am running the Omega 6.9 drivers, as both the Catalyst 6.10 and 6.11 drivers give weird tearing polygons in this game. One interesting thing to note is that there is NO WAY to turn of HDR. Or the grass effects. I think disabling both of these option would go a long way to making this game playable.
Changing my graphics settings to high performance did nothing to frame rate and decreased the image quality.
It's a real shame, because already the game has great gameplay, and I've only just played the first mission.
So, if you're planning on running it on a 7400Go/MR X1400, watch out! -
If the specifications say that it needs a 6800, then a 7400 or X1400 can't really compete with that, unfortunely. I think you'll need to have something around the 7600 or X1600 speed, to play it much faster.
-
Minimum specs on the ArmA site say 128MB pixel shader 2.0 card, optimum requirements state a 6800. And the X1600 (desktop versions dont handle it well either, so sub 17" notebook gamers are kinda out of it :S)

Regarding 6800 requirement: the Go7600 runs about as good as a mobile 6800. So, the Go7600 is still somewhat less as the recommended 6800. The 7400 falls waaay short.

Well at least the game has a good widescreen support. But I am afraid that this is again a bad optimilazed game for the PC

The worst thing is that the game doesn't even look so great as to warrant such demanding hardware. I won't even bother trying to run it on my Go7400 in this case, I'll leave it to my desktop 7600GT.....disappointing, though.
-
What's your CPU speed Sylvain? OFP was a CPU intensive game, so ArmA probably is too.
Don't worry. Patches are scheduled that will probably bump the frame rate up a bit. For you probably to 25-30 on low. Also I belive you can force Direct X 7 mode or something to make it run faster (But loose image quality).
Pray for dual core support. The Source engine is getting it in a patch so it's a possiblity. I think they got 2x the performance in Source.

I guess my desktop won't run it.
I have 9800 Pro! lags in every game I play. -
I hope the patches at least give me a steady 30FPS. That's all I need.
All I want to play is this and Source games. That's it. -

what if you do it on 4:3 and then turn it to like 800x600?
-

hey can a 1.60 ghz duo run this? and about how powerful is a 1.60?
-
And you can't change the Direct X level. Doing so would mean you lose HDR, and the devs want everyone playing with it, to boost realism and keep the playing field level.
I do pray for DX 7/8 level tweaks, and a HDR patch. But it's a shame that such a fantastic game is ruined by such bad optimisation. -
Anything running in the background? Hopefully a patch will come soon. The same problem happened in OFP. Slow framerates. If they end up adding dual core support, and I think they will, your FPS will most likely jump. -
This is on a newly formatted, tweaked install of XP. Not even AV running. I really hope I can atleast run native res medium after patches.
-
Try running 800 x 600 until the patches come out. Read a guy in a ArmA forum was getting terrible FPS with 1024x768 and knocked it down to that. Now he gets 40-50 with full detail. I'm sure they will address the FPS problem soon.

****, so I guess the comp in my sig, I can't even expect it to load? Lol. HDR is the one thing that kills my computer, and I don't even like HDR at all.

New patches out (Czech and German). After reading through a number of forums, people have been getting playable increases in framerate. GREAT NEWS.
Czech Patch 1.01

Sylvain, have you tried the patch? I read people have gotton frame rate boost.
-
Nah, I havent tried it yet, uni has just gone back, so my gaming time is pretty limited.
Is a 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo as fast or faster then a 3GHz P4? (ArmA: Armed Assualt)
