I am shopping around for a budget lappy for a co workers son who is starting college and I was looking at the 1505 to compare it to my 5672. After configuring it to similar specs as mine (except for a x1400 vs. x1600 as he is not a gamer) and the 7300 is a ~$35 increase over the more powerfull x1400. I was just wondering what they are on to cause this?

Thats exactly wat i saw! I just built a dell yesterday and i didn't know which one to choose. There was 256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory™ for $79 more or 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™Go 7300 TurboCache for an additional $24. In the end i chose the geforce go 7300 for $24 more. Now i'm wondering if that was a bad decision. Which is pretty much why i spent all this morning searching the web on which one is a better buy. So any one know why the price difference and which one is better???
From wat i read the ATI has a faster clock while the turbocache on the GeForce allocates memory more efficiently. -

Because default they are the x1400 so they have to change it? I suppose if you want to run linux then you go nvidia.

but if i'm not running linux?

well i searched the forum and found a few conflicting, but overal people seem to agree that the X1400 is better than teh 7300. Namely because of the price and the X1400 faster speed. Do you think dell will let me change my order??? O.O -

I'm not sure why Dell charges more for the Go7300, but the X1400 is the superior GPU. Most people think more expensive = faster. Always do your research before you buy.

Doubtful Dell will let you change your order without a fee of some sort. I personally trust NVidia's drivers more than ATI's. ATI's drivers have habitually been flaky (as a developer, I may punish/utilize them more than just a casual gamer) whereas NVidia's have been solid. The x1400 is almost undoubtedly faster though. I found this site a while back, and though it doesn't have numbers for everything, it does happen to have them for the 7300 and the x1400. Draw your own conclusions, and decide what you want. Call Dell ASAP to get a chance at changing it though, even for a fee.

fixed with no charge!!! THX

P.S. Mr Dell sue me. My opinion is just that and in no way represents this forum's view, it's owners or it's affiliates in any way -
Normal people don't research and try to understand everything. Normal people see ads on tv and think "Hey! That looks awesome! And its a Dell! Everyone has a Dell! I want one too!"
Is dell crazy or something???
