There isn't really a "good" time to try to buy something futureproof. Technology is always going to change.

You could look into laptops that can be upgraded. Sager/Clevo etc.

I'll be honest.. "future proofing" is an oxymoron. If you want gaming..get a desktop. laptops, however, could possibly play high end games but they'll get out-dated fast. So, unless you're Mr.MoneyBanks, which i'm assuming you're not because you're wanting "future" proof--stick with medium-end laptops.

Everyone get their laptop for a reason and the time length that consider as future proof is different for every property.

ya, when it comes to gaming + future proof it's just better to get a desktop.

Wait for CEBIT and CES to occur and buy later next year if you have the time to wait. Then you will see the new models, materialized advancements, etc. I agree with the above, a Clevo base will allow you to upgrade. Desktops are great for 'futureproofing', but impractical for a mobile powerhouse solution. I follow a model of netbook+desktop replacement. One is mobile and can be replaced every 1-2 years, and the other can be upgraded every 1-2 years, and replaced every 3-4. This is what I will/have followed and it is all do-able with some saving.

It's when new laptops are presented, but they only get to the masses starting with the summer.

At this point, your best bet is to get the OCZ Whitebook , which is the cheapest and fastest high end laptop around.
