Not a chance, 8800 is supposedly Nvidia's flagship mobile video card and most users have already dismissed the chances of a 15" laptop housing the card let alone a 14" like the 1420.

Nope, untill Dell makes the 8800 an option for the 1420, you will not be able to upgrade to that.

Not saying that Dell will, but that will be your only choice.

    Definitly not...

1-only 5% of notebooks GPU can be upgraded
2-There is no 8800M yet anyway, it wouldnt fit
3- You probably wont be able to upgrade to anything as i said before. (If the slight chance you can, id say an 8700M or 8600M)

    Hope i could help

Likely, your laptop's probably not upgradeable at all. GPUs and upgradeability is a new concept in laptops, one that isn't implemented in your Dell 1420 design.

So, no. Do not count on an 8800 in your laptop at all.

    Not likely, definitely...

The 8400GS is the best card available for the 1420, thus there is nothing better to upgrade to.

If you want to run crysis, then you better invest in a new notebook, that is your only chance.

Just as an aside, you're aware that you can indeed run Crysis on your current GPU, right?

If you really want an 8800, you will have to wait for an 8800M in a notebook (Shouldnt be much longer) and buy a new laptop with that GPU in it, there is no other option. But yes, you should be able to play Crysis on your current card, maybe just turn down some of your graphic settings...

    Hope I could Help

Depends what your definition of "run" is. But I would imagine that it could handle it at the lowest settings. Even at the lowest setting the game still looks good.

It will handle it fine at low to medium settings and 800x600 res, depending on your other system specs (CPU, RAM).

Could you cram the 8800m into a vostro 1500 with an 8600m gt in it?

Much as I would personally wish for such an upgrade, you're looking at very long odds considering the 8800GT is virtually certain to be a 17" and up card due to it s size and cooling issues.

If Dell makes an 8800M for the Vostro 1500, then yes you will be able to cram it in. Otherwise no.

You can't just take any gpu and put it in your laptop. The manufacturer has to make it. So like I said, untill Dell makes an 8800M for the Vostro 1500, you won't be able to put it in.

Oh come ON NOW! STOP! NO! Buy a desktop if you want upgradeable graphics. notebooks are super compact and have very little upgradeability. So NO! you can't. If you DO want to upgrade your graphics with very few options, then you'll need a 17" upgradeable laptop that will be heavy and have very little battery life... those are the facts.

While I agree with the sentiment, those aren't really "the facts". Most Dell notebook's, including the OP's (I'm pretty sure) have "upgradeable" graphics (in the sense the graphics module can be removed and replaced). And many sub-17" notebooks have truly upgradeable, standardized graphics systems (MXM usually).

Yeah, 'cept the manufacturers didn't make any other cards for those laptops, thus they have nothing to upgrade to.

Which laptops are you talking about? Laptops like the Alienware m5550, the Amilo Pi, the Asus C90s, all have upgrade options.
