I'm thinking of buying the Sony Vaio CW2 with 256mb Nvidia 310M. I would ideally like 512mb.

How could I find out if the CW2 will take a GPU memory upgrade? Or even better, could I upgrade the GPU itself? I know the CW2 comes in configurations with the Nvidia 330M 512mb (sadly not the configuration I want) so the chipset must support it.

Presuming the GPU is not soldered to the MB, are there are differences to upgrading a mobile GPU to as opposed to the method used for a Desktop GPU upgrade - (i.e installed GPU and then the drivers). How easy is it to buy mobile GPU's?

    Thanks

There is nothing called "GPU memory upgrade", Also 256MB is quite fine for your low end 310M GPU since you won't be able to play the memory heavily demanding games like GTA IV on that GPU anyway

you need to ask someone if you GPU is MXM based (can be changed) and not built-in the MB ... and if it is MXM you will need to know what version and see what are the available replacements.... this is quite more complicated than changing desktop GPU .... anyway that is not done by the vendor & the results are unpredictable & it will void ur warranty

you cannot change anything to do with the GPU as it is soldered to the motherboard unlike desktop cards...and in sony's , 100% of the time , GPU is soldered to motherboard... you either can try an external graphics solution like DIY Vidock , but u need external monitor and makes ur laptop inportable which defeats the purpose of laptop... or the way easier way is to buy a new laptop after researching... anyways link for DIY Vidock below if u want to try out...
