Is it true Nvidia 880M is not compatible with 120Mhz LCDs?

I mean when it comes to watching 3D films or playing 3D games, but can only work with external 3D enabled LCDs?

 

I don`t think any GPUs are capable to output 120 000Hz. But I guess thats not what you meant

Joke aside, there are many Nvidia GPUs that can do 120Hz I think. Its very lacky on the display side of notebooks though. Few have 120Hz display

 

If you are talking about hooking up to an external monitor, Display Port (i forget which version), DVI, and HDMI1.4b can display more than 60Hz. From what I've seen most laptops only use HDMI1.4a.

 

Sorry, guys, I don't think I was clear.

I've been told 3D Vision 2 won't work on the Panther 5 system by Eurocom because 880m won't support internal displays, but external only.

This is what I'm clarifying.

Huh.. My 675M on my Sammy Gamer 7 pushes 120Hz internal display just fine. It doesn't support 3D vision though. Seems silly if the 880M doesn't.

Nvidia was suppose to provide full 3D GTX 880M support for internal LCD but they have some issues with this. Therefore we had to remove 3D support from our website for GTX 880M models. You can still order GTX 780M SLI - which is fully supported.

 

3D support for internal screen with GTX880M on P50WM3 is already in the models shipping last week from Clevo factory...

It's propably a new BIOS, we will see on monday when the stock comes in at a reseller...

120,000,000Hz actually.

The 880M is physically identical to the 780M so is perfectly capable of 120hz on any non optimus only machine.

 

The agent at Eurocom do you have any link backing this up?

So, when the agent says:

GTX 880M works fine with 120Hz internal LCD panels, just doesn't support 3D
there is no option in NVIDIA GTX 880M GPU Manager for 3D
There is no issue with 120Hz internal panels running in non-3D mode

He's mistaken?

 

120Hz is no problem on any machine that can drive the 120 eDP monitors. The license to enable 3D is in the system BIOS and that needs to be updated for every single GPU model.

Also there is a difference between pure 120Hz models and 3D models as in that the 3D models contain the internal 3D emitter.

The new shipping is expected this week to reach Shanghai, this is internal information and not publicly available on the net.
It is not different hardware, it just contains the new BIOS.

 

Prema, you said in your unedited post that you were using this new BIOS. Can you show a screenshot with the 3D settings?

 

I mod BIOS's so I get files early. I don't own this notebook.

Please ask them to post "proof" that it works. Most of postings are done be people that do not have physical machines so they are not able to test or verify anything.
