    Hey,
    so I have a toshiba p100-st9752 with
    core 2 duo 1.83 (t5600)
    3GB DDR2 667
    512 MB GDDR3 7900GTX Go
games run off external eSATA WD raptor drive.

I play FPS games that are graphic intensive (COD4, assassins creed, BF2, BF2142, IL2, Red Orchestra) as well as games that seem to use more cpu, e.g. Combat Mission series, Theaters of War, Panzer Command: Khardov, etc

I was wondering if it is worth it to buy a faster core 2 duo cpu and see drastic improvements in these games. something like 2.16 or 2.33 core 2 duos

How is this cpu compared to an AMD X2 4200+ @2.2 with 7600GT and 2 GB ram. I ask this b/c i feel like my old desktop runs stuff (esp. Theater of War, Combat mission) faster than this current gaming rig.

Of course as gaming rig, I have made sure there is minimal background apps running, minimal Vista services running.

the gfx card is running 169.04 oc ed to minor 514 MHz/600 (memory, stock)

    thanks!

you could see if an overclocking cpu gets you any more fps, if it then a new cpu would help, if not then something else is the culprit

you won't see big improvement. Besides, intel's higher end cpus are highly expensive considering the increase in performance. No need to waste money on cpu.

My laptop has a 2.16 Core 2 Duo, one of my desktops has an Athlon 4400 X2 (2.2 Ghz) The difference between them when gaming is negligible from a CPU standpoint.
From a GPU one, it's a whole other story.

    ---ever price a 2.33GHz mobile Core 2 Duo like a T7600? It's $620+!!

From performance point of view this is a minor upgrade you are talking about and you will not see any dramatic improvement in performance in games... save your money for a overall batter configuration for a later time... for games GPU counts more that CPU and 1.83 Core 2 should be enough for most games these days...
