I recently bought a Dell XPS M1210, its running VISTA on a NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 card. I purchased the new Halo 2 game for PC today and when i run it, it tells me that my Video memory is 64Mb when 128 is required. says "NVIDIA 6100, ATI X700" required on the box, is that higher than a 7400? I read in another thread that the 7400 has 128 dedicated and 128 shared. This doesn't make sence to me because when i open up my performance page it tells me;
"Total available graphics memory 559 MB
Dedicated graphics memory 64 MB
Dedicated system memory 0 MB
Shared system memory 495 MB"
Is there anyway that i can dedicate more memory to graphics or turn the shared memory off?
Any help is appreciated. thanks
Ps. i went through "performance information and tools" to see what i could do. All i found was the power saver settings (set it to high performance).

don't think so, some Go 7400 has 128MB of dedicated RAM, while some has 64MB...
so unluckily, you got 64MB...sorry
Nope, you can't physically add more dedicated RAM to your video card...
Plus, Halo 2 runs like crap on GO 7400 anyway...check out the Go 7400 screenshot thread. -
it says the same thing on the box of NWN 2. my friend has a 7400 and he installed the game, he got really bad texture errors and weird shadows. ur card might be a higher series than the go 6600 but it is probably not supported by the game. see if there is a list of supported GPU's.

The Go7400's in 12.1" and 13.3" machines only have 64mb of dedicated memory. Normally this isn't a problem, since those cards use turbocaching efficiently enough to perform essentially the same as a 128mb Go7400 does. Will the game phsically not run, i.e. does it give you the error message and then exit? Or is it just a "warning" ?
-
Just the warning comes up. The game runs but its laggy enough to affect gameplay. Online would be impossible. I have the game Shadowrun, same problem. I'm a little dissapointed with XPS honestly, i assumed it was designed for gaming. When i ordered it, i chose the customize feature and the 7400 was the best option. would it be hard to upgrade my card?
-
It would be impossible to upgrade you card. The machine is designed for gaming, so much so as any ultraportable can be. That's still the very best graphics card available in a 12" machine.
Make sure you have the latest laptopvideo2go drivers, and make sure the settings are all turned down in the game. Also, in the nVidia control panel, set frames rendered ahead to 0 or 1. -
-
hey for its size it packs a pretty good punch. to be honest that is.
-
Dell advertising has always been kinda misleading about the M1210. Its not a gaming machine at all.
-
maybe not compared to say a 17" notebook. but for a 12" notebook it has some decent specs. i guess u cant "label" that kind of a notebook a gaming machine in todays high tech world, but it is above average for such a compact computer.
-
that sucks....unfortunately those two games arn't returnable items with all that copyright bull.
Thanks for the help though. -
Have you tried upgrading your drivers, and tweaking the settings as I mentioned above? Also read this. I'm fairly certain your card should be able to handle the game without lag, you just have to find the right settings and drivers.
-
Yeah, thanks man. Updated the video driver but it made the game quit "unexpectedly" so i rolled it back. but i didn't notice before that the game is set up to install in the background so the user can instantly start playing while the files are being copied to the computer. Took about 45 minutes for it to finish. With video specs lowered, gameplay is smooth. I can even play online, but once it gets to more than 10 people it starts to lag.

I have a Go7400 with 128mb dedicated memory, Halo 2 still runs like absolute crap. Play Halo original instead, it honestly looks the same for the most part and will actually look better on your machine then Halo 2 because you'll be able to run it at high settings.
The Go7400 is a card capable of modest gaming but definitely should not be bought with a view to intense, dedicated gaming or expecting it to live up to such. I think you've been conned by Dell's marketing....
But that said don't write off the Go7400 over this, Halo 2 is a pathetic port, nothing more - you can play far better games that'll run much faster and look much prettier on it. -
I was going to go for the m1210 aswell but then heard of the m1330 which is the newer version. After reading countless articles I figured out that these computers are ultra-portable, very nice looking, and do pack a punch in gaming for their size. Unfortunately, they aren't the best so I ended up with a 15.4inch notebook that can punch anygame to the ground! The Asus G1S. Try changing drivers and getting rid of bloatware. It won't improve everything but just to be optimistic.

i would go ahead and try multiplayer if you haven't already
ive found that i get better performance in multiplayer than in singleplayer
Is my Graphics card damaged?
