So here's the thing- i always enjoyed playing with high graphics in almost all my games and usually the card keeps up well... However one day i opened a game and noticed that my graphics were at the lowest possible maybe worse than that, even though i set it at high or ultra. I noticed all my games were like this.. then out of nowhere my computer died twice in game.. once it even flashed vibrant colours... but heres the thing when i use my back-up intel hd graphics its fine. :( did the graphics card just give up the ghost? if so, can i replace it or is it saudered? any help would be much appreciated, thanks guys

Try reinstalling your AMD graphics drivers straight from the AMD website. If that doesn't work then it's your physical GPU that is the problem. I am pretty sure that the HP Envy has the GPU soldered to the motherboard, so really if it is you are out of luck.

If you are up to it, you can try the "oven trick" which is when you put the motherboard or GPU in the oven for about 10min at 390degrees - however only do this if you have nothing else to loose and you are absolutely sure you want to do it - it may or may not work - or may even fry your motherboard. I have done the oven trick successfully multiple times on a GPU.... but never on an actual motherboard though.

Hey, thanks so much for your help.

i tried updating the drivers, even uninstalling it and reinstalling it, however to no avail. graphics are sluggish, very badly rendered, and after a while bonks out.. plus my laptop burns very quickly now.. might try the oven trick.. i'll see..

    thanks again!

Did you try blowing out the fans and vents? I had a similar issue with an older laptop of mine and opened up the vents to find a whole mess of dust matted to the grating that was seriously blocking the airflow.

I opened up my laptop and noticed my thermal paste is completely plasticized, could this be causing the over heating? i'll open up my fans too but theyre okay from the looks of it- very little dust. BUT could it just be the bad paste? im going to try and add new paste to it. sound like a good idea?

Yes definitely, if it solves your problem then that will be an easy fix for you - if not then you know it's the physical card itself.
