I installed MW2 yesterday and played, it plays as smooth as butter for about 30 minutes and then hits a wall and it begins to lag, I exit and the entire computer bogs down, I thought "oh firefox is open" I look and it's taking up half a gig of ram and using 95 percent of my CPU so I close it, still no dice. I restart and everything is fine again. I run the game without any applications running in the background, virus off, firewall off, UAC off, and I plug in my ethernet just...because I guess and it once again hits the wall. I restart and all is fine again.

A few minutes ago the computer bogged down again without even having RUN the game as if the CPU was getting torched and it didn't change until I put the power plan on power saver, took the plug out, used it on battery for a few minutes, and then plugged it back in and again changed the power plan to high performance. The computer is now perfectly fine without me having restarted.

This is a fresh install of Windows 7, a new HDD and everything checks out. I'm really not sure what to make of this but I want to play my damn game! The CPU peaks at 87C the GPU peaks at 75 C, I have tried to play the game both with and without overclocks on and it makes no difference.

    Thank you!

    Your CPU is throttling.

Undervolt it, or cool it some other way.

Or you might be able to mod the thermal throttling trip point in the registry.
I can help you with that, though it might not work.

Your best bet is to undervolt (I can give you a link to a guide if you need it).

Why now though all of a sudden? Is that even really THAT hot for a CPU?

that is VERY hot for a CPU. a CPU's danger level is iirc, 90c and anything above 80c is very dangerous.

Seems as if I got about a 10C decrease, appears to be hanging out around 77C stable right now. Not too bad, I might bust out my semi crappy laptop cooler anyway though.
