When I boot up my laptop steam takes up to 70% of my cpu for like 10min then it takes no cpu power unless I load something that has to do with steam. Why does steam take so much cpu power when I boot up my computer? It makes my computer slow when I boot it up. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks!

ya i hear ya, i hate it when steam starts on startup. you can disable it and it will be much better. just right click the steam tray icon>settings>go to the interface tab>uncheck "Run Steam When Windows Starts"

    and there you go! :)

It's much quicker to start anything up after, not on boot.. during boot you have a ton of things loading already and piling steam on top of that just makes it worse.

The more games you have, the more updates it will check for. However, it seems strange that Steam is slowing your system down for 10 minutes. Are you sure it isn't anti-virus scanning on reboot?

One thing you can try instead of removing it from startup is that you could disable the auto login feature. That way it will not be able to check for patches and so on. Then when you are ready, just login and let it do its thing.

though thats basically the same as disabling it on start up then manually starting it up when you need it

mine takes a minute or two on bootup to get it running after windows has loaded, but by no means 10 ha... but, like you said, once it's up and running, it isn't even noticeable
