The Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 is pretty good for gaming. It all depends on your RAM though. I have my internal video settings at MaxDvMt which means I am using as much of my RAM possible towards my graphics. It also is only 256 mb of RAM so it's not using much RAM. I have 1 gb, 512 MB of RAM, after the MaxDvMt I still have 1 gb and 256 mb of RAM. I play CS Source and it runs fine. It's my processor that is having the problem with that game. I have a Intel Celeron M 520 processor, it has 1.6 ghz, 533 Mhz FSB, 1 MB L2 cache, yeah I know, I have to upgrade my processor. I am going to get a Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.0 Ghz clock speed, two cores, 2Mb L2 cache, 633 Mhz FSB, it costs 125 dollars, I know, its a great deal, peace and good luck with the graphics.

Ok, fps stands for Frames per second. If you play CS Source, all you have to do to figure out your fps is go to the video stress test, it will do a test on your fps, after the test it will tell you your fps, a good fps would be probably 30-65 fps, that's average. Good luck with all that then, if anyone has any questions I am a pretty reliable source on all of the computer stuff, peace.

@grand876IIRC Celeron M 500-series = Core 2 Duo based. Doubt if your system is going to get much performance increase on single threaded apps.

    @Thibault: 4chan? :p

grand876: No, GMA950 is not good for gaming. You lose. I agree with Thibault.
OP: GMA950 is good for battery life, and Ultraportables. Other than that, its not good for anything.

Amol: the C2D architecture benefits a lot from the extra cache (halving the cash increases the time it takes to calculate 2M digits of pi by about 40 seconds) and the higher clock will help as well.

Ok... do you have a GMA950 on your laptop, because I do, I also run CS Source and it runs fine, It can't run big maps like de_dust2 or de_aztec but I'm positive it's my processing because I have a 1.6GHZ processor, I hate my processor. As soon as I get my dual-core with 2.0GHZ it will be able to run all those maps perfectly. I know it's not my GMA950 because I looked at the stats on a friend of mine's video card, it was worse than the GMA950. He has a good processor though, he runs the game fine, so the GMA950 can run CS Source with the GMA950 so I win. Good luck with all your laptops.

I sincerely doubt that someone with a worse card then a GMA950 is running CS Source fine, let alone running CS Source itself on a GMA950! :p

Well, his card wasn't much worse. It has the same shared memory, it has a lower clock speed. He has a reliable amount of RAM so, when you install more shared memory your video card uses some RAM to have more Video memory, I'm sure you already know that. It isn't a great video card, but it can run some video games, Source would be one. Also, since Source uses open source it can run things a lot faster, just like Linux.

Yeah, and also, I'm not trying to win, I just want to submit correct information. Thanks, also if anyone has any more questions to ask about their laptop, I am able to help you. Peace.

Here's an idea. Post a video of your GMA 950 laptop playing specific games.

Seriously, misinformation is a pain...and I think everyone would benefit from proof.

I'm not calling anyone out here, I'm just suggesting a method with which everyone is assured solid info.

Ok Greg, that's a great idea. I will do that, I will record myself with fraps, all I need to know is where to submit the video to. Thanks a lot Greg.

    Hi,

I want to play the 3D online poker game application which pkr.com provide.

Their site says it rerquires a 32mb vga card. I am about to buy a Dell Inspiron 6400 with the following spec:

    Processor:
    Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core T2080 Processor (1.73GHz,533MHz,1MB L2 cache)
    Operating System:
Genuine Windows® XP Professional - English
    Memory:
    2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x1024]
    Grahics/Video Card:
Intel® Media Accelerator 950 Graphics Up to 256MB shared graphics memory

Will this laptop and most importantly the IMA 950 suffice for this game. It appears to meet their requirements but the Dell site recommends their XPS laptops for gaming - but they would I suppose. I only intend to play this one game on it - will this laptop be able to manage that?

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated - I'm a bit clueless in the technology department I'm afraid!

    Thanks

Recording with fraps will kill the fps anyway as the cpu will be used for that as well as gaming. I;d suggest taking the vid on a mobile phone etc. where it wont hamper perofrmance. Having the fraps fps counter up though is a good thing as far as proof is concerned.
