well, i hated morrowind, and i cant stand reading for ever and not being told wherer to go... so will i like the witcher or not?
-
I've heard that practically everything is great about it except for the poor language translation.
Try hard language make! Witcher talk this and says circumstance unallow to glassiously intend right meanings! Ununderstandable game! -
It's hard to tell if you would like it or not. It's much more linear than Morrowind (best RPG of all time IMO) and does have voice acting (albeit mediocre at times), but you still may find it intimidating at first to learn how to work all the quests, skills, alchemy and what not. I would suggest downloading the demo because that is essentially the prologue (minus a few scenes) and a good chunk of Act I, and it would give you a really good idea of whether or not you will like it.
-
you can go play Oblivion and follow a little red dot if you want to. The Witcher won't tell you where to go but its not as wide open a world as TES.
-
you can also have your quests tracked on the witcher via a red marker on the map. Also the translation isn't bad at all - I actually own the game and am about 5 hours into it. If this game has too much problem solving for your liking then rpgs are not for you.
-
Try the demo, then make up your mind.
I didn't care for it much. The attack interface is quirky, although I know that's what helps make it unique. I just couldn't get into it. -
I was hoping i would enjoy the game but
didnt like it....too bloody confusing
the leveling up menus, potions, attributes or whatever they are are so complicated.
the fighting is annoying you have to change styles in between and sometimes you cant even fight with the style you want.
i cant turn the graphics up to max since the cutscenes lag horribly.
you have to research what the potions are made of before you can go and get the parts or something along those lines...
half the time i dont know what im supposed to be doing or what I am doing
but yea try the demo out...best way to find out if you will like it or not -
The language translation's fine, but I think the voice acting could use a little work. The game has a learning curve (15 hours into it, still don't 100% get alchemy), but is fun to play.
-
Well, you should try the demo. I enjoyed other western RPGs, but I actually didn't enjoy this. I guess it was a combination of some things already mentioned, but I especially didn't care for the gameplay. It just wasn't that fun to me.
-
You should watch the Zero Punctuation review of the game:
http://kotaku.com/348143/zero-punctuation-experiments-with-machinima-badly -
Zero punctuation reviews rip into every game selected so that may not be the best way to recommend the game to someone.
Lots of users find the gameplay either difficult to follow or unattractive. I would suggest getting the demo and making your own mind up. The voice acting varies in quality although the english subtitles can be modded to show the original uncensored version produced before it was cut for budget reasons. -
You should still watch them though. They're funny as hell.

Thanks guys. I was wondering why the heck I would be getting 30 FPS ingame and dropping down to 15 during a cutscene, which:
1. Shows less stuff, and,
2. Uses the same engine. -
Zero Punctuation does rip into every game, but not in an unfair way. Yahtzee continually points out the glaring weaknesses and flaws in each game. I wouldn't take it as my only source for info, but they are definitely worth watching. For instance, he points out the repetitive nature of "The Witcher", the complicated controls, the thick manual that nobody wants to read, and the simple combat. All are issues that people point out about the game.
-
Some of these issues are indeed complaints for some users, but I also read that the zero punctuation reviewer absolutely despises cRPGs and other games in this genre so a lot of the vitriol must be taken with a pinch of salt. -
You can also try Gothic 3, nice game! And about Witcher , better try demo first!
-
To actually enjoy the game, you needed 3 or 4 mods to fix the worst gameplay screwups (*cough* level scaling *cough*)
Yahtzee usually points out some valid issues. Of course, not everyone cares about those issues, but they're still there.
-
Modding the Witcher is quite a challenge at present since the developers have yet to develop a toolset and most mods available online require some basic knowledge of the game engine, a prerequisite that many gamers may not possess or feel inclined to pick up. -
yea... after watching the video i dont think im gona waste my time with the demo even, lol

That is the first time I have ever seen somebody base their purchasing decision off a Yahtzee review; his reviews are to laugh at not to take seriously. Please watch these other reviews and consider that there is a reason it got over 50 000 votes for RPG of the year @ gamespot. -
Well, i'm not a real rpg fan(only rpgs i played were kotor 1&2). I'm now at the beginning of the witcher and i like it. The alchemy thing seams extremely complicated, but since im playing at easy i don't think i'm going to need it. As for the combat, i only want it to be easy. I olny care about the story and moral decisions.
-
is the combat system like point and click or more like a hack n slash brawler? ( I hate point and click)
-
It's timed point and click, so you're not mashing the mouse button all the time.
-
ohhhh..... yeah, i uninstalled the demo after i figured the attacking was bugged. i'd click like forever, even right clicking, clicking on something else then reclicking the mob, and my guy would only attack like 1 out of every 25 clicks.... no wonder. silly witcher
-
The game also comes with a detailed in-game tutorial.
