Like the title says, is there any driver that can be overclocked by rivatuner? All other drivers other than 16904 I tried will revert the overclocking bar to default and won't let me overclock. I saw from other threads something about flashing bios. What's 'flashing' bios?

Most, if not all custom drivers from lv2go.com can overclock. You must have done something wrong when installing.

I've tried 17431 and about 10 other drivers from laptopvideos2go.com I followed exactly what they said everytime. I extracted the driver and replaced inf. file with the modded inf. I also now have rivatuner 2.07
my laptop is sony SZ-680 it has 8400gs -

you know what you should do in rivatuner with 174.31 move the shader and the core clock will drop but in hardware moniting it will show the increase

nope doesn't work
I heard I can use ATI tools or nTune. I should try those

I have always used ATITool for OCing and never had a problem with drivers. I OC on 174.31 without a problem.

Atm the highest is 169.04 that will overclock the Geforce 8400M GS in the Sony VAIO SZ. I have seen numerous other posts of other SZ users who are stuck on this driver if they want to overclock their 8400M GS.
I tried as you, numerous drivers and only found 169.04 and a few older ones will overclock. My guess is that the clock and memory speeds are locked in the Sony VAIO SZ BIOS as it was in the previous S series.
There some thousands of threads ago i vaguelly remember that Nvidia cards can have overclocking ability locked in both driver level and bios level. So it seems we need a driver that is unlocked at least at driver level (Maybe also allow ignoring of the bios locked values) since it seems Sony locked the core and memory speeds at bios level. Hmm i wish i could remember which thread had all the info.
Atm there is no way of confirming this as i haven`t been able to dump the Video BIOS so i am guessing its not located on the video chip, maybe the main BIOS, which would mean no BIOS clockrate fixing for us atm.
Also use RivaTuner. That seems to work best. -
And at the moment, I don't think there is a need to use anything beyond 169.04. I don't believe the later drivers have offered any performance increases or compatability improvements in most cases.
