Despite the fact that it can run tests in all resolutions, it requires the ability to run 1280x1024 ...

Any way around that, or will I have to use an external monitor?

Is this a new restriction in Vantage? I was able to run 3dMark06 fine on my laptop that had a native res of 1280x800. Choose 1024x768 or another better suited resolution.

If not... yes you will need to use an external monitor.

You have to buy the full to be able to change the res.

Its in settings though, if you have purchased

I have the advanced edition, latest version - yeah, I used my mate's reg key, drown me :/

But he's running it on desktop so it was nver an issue for him. I wanted to test it before I bought it, and when I try to run, even at lower res, it says on startup

    Important information!

Required resolution 1280x1024 is not supported!

On the support site it says they haven't released a version that doesn't require at least that, but I was wondering if anyone had found a way around it...

For some strange reason my monitor is able to display any resolution it wants. It just stretches off my screen and I have to scroll to the sides to see it. I'm able to run 3Dmark06 at 1280x1024 on a 1440x900 screen.

The reason that the image is off of your screen because it has 124 pixles that can not be fitted to the display.

I know how you feel, my external is a 1440x900....not the best but I like it....

I'd be fine with that - it simply wont let me run the tests...

Umm, yes I know that. =.=

My point is that I'm able to run 3DMark06 at 1280x1024 despite my native resolution being lower than that. I'm just not sure why it's only possible on some computers.

Perhaps you could borrow your roommate's monitor to run the test?

Lol, I'm in the US atm, so that's two weeks away, but yeah, the guy I'm staying with here has one, so I'll ask him, was just wondering if it was possible.

On 3dmark go to options > Feature tests and turn them all off. then go to graphics test and cpu test whichever you want to perform and click run and it should do it :)

Go to 'Display settings' and then click 'advanced settings'. On the 'monitor' tab, uncheck 'hide modes that this monitor cannot display'. If you do this you will get the same experience as cathy which is
If you can't uncheck it, that means your monitor is installed properly. :p
