I finished the game 2 times already, it truly is an epic game, incredibile story-telling and all that, but the game is very short for an RPG imo. It mostly has dialogue, the game can easily be completed in 2 days of hardcore gaming, wich is not enough for me. Is there any rpg similar to dragon age, at least with a very good story line but much longer? I know about oblivion, but the game has basiclly no story-line, 2-3 hours and you're done with the main quest (closing the oblivion gate), then you just have to explore the world by urself, but im not really in to that, and i also didn't enjoy the gameplay that much, the caracter moves kinda stupid.

Neverwinter Nights 2? Lots of player made maps or (modules). Not quite as epic story wise but it is fun. Worth 20 bucks that is for sure... Have you tried Mass Effect yet? Dragon Age is very good. Hard to find games of that caliber. Best Wishes, stevenx
-
Mass Effect, and with ME2 coming out soon, there's a reason to play it now!
-
If you find Dragon Age short, than I'm not sure what else to recommend to you. Many people where putting in 60+ hours on their first play through. I can't think of many, recent RPGs that offer that many hours of game play.
-
Yeah i had arround 50 of hours of gameplay on my first play through as well, read every possibile dialogue and all that, and the 2nd time i finished it in arround 27 hours, just skipped the dialogue cause i knew it already, and just made the main quest. There aren't so many armor sets and the map is pretty small, theres only the areas/dungeons, but not the path between them, you can't explore the world to much.
LE: isn't mass effect a fps? i'm not really in to such games -
I've found "divinity 2 ego draconis", heard some good reviews about it, the game is european and seems not to be available in english yet, thats why i will first try a cracked version before buying it.
-
Try The Witcher with the enhanced patches. The combat is somewhat similar and should last a while (not sure how long it really is as I'm on a school computer so can't check reviews).
-
If you find Dragon Age is short -and- you did absolutely ALL the exploration you could possibly do, seeing all that the game has to offer (including all 6 origin stories, at the very least, even if you're not going for a second complete playthrough) and you still found it short, well...
Maybe an MMO...? -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
Wow you guys plow through Dragon Age that fast!?! Were you playing on easy or something? I put about 5 hours into it so far and I am still just getting the hang of Tactics and Combat. Maybe I just suck, lol.
-
Gothic 2 and Gothic 3. You'll like that. The 3 is a bit buggy but there are patches that take care of that. And they are not short.

2nd time you play it its very easy, the story is basiclly the same for every class, i completed it as an elven warrior with dual weapon and 2nd time as a human warrior with 2 handed weapons (wich was a monster), im telling you guys, this game can be completed in 1 day of non-stop gaming, just get a lot of cokes and completelly skip the dialogues if you're into it for the 2nd time
atm im downloading a cracked version of divinity 2 ego draconis, wich seems to be in english after all, if i will like it i will recommend it and buy the game
i will also try nwn2 and that mass effect everybody is talking about it
about the witcher...no offense guys but gameplay really sucked to me, that guy was moving like a gay with that sword, i really didn't like it ! -
^^ LOL moving like a gay hahaha..
NWN2 is good idea.. I played a little bit of ME on Xbox it was okay, couldn't get into it, I guess I'm not too big into that Sci-fi, starwars feel or something. -
Good lord man! That's some long nights you puttin in there.
Well, guess I can't say anything, beat MW2 Campaign in like...2 Hours? Lol.. -
It would be like playing Fallout 3 just for the sidequests, which can turn a 15 hour game into about 3. -

I would recommend NOT skipping ANY of the Mass Effect dialogue. The voice actors are very good, and the tone really adds more depth to the dialogue, especially since your character speaks, not just... text.
Also, Mass Effect has high replay-ability, and there's quite a few sidequests (which sometimes add more to the story/character development, so it's in your best interest to do them). -
There is always Baldur Gates 1 and 2... That game was brutal.
-
I will try mass effect tomorrow, btw don't ever, ever, try playing divinity II-ego draconis, most epic fail game i tried in the last 4 months ! I couldn't play it longer then 20 minutes.

yeah ive put in 50+ hours into dragon Age and i havent really been following the main story to much, as others have suggested NWN & NWN2 are options or head back in time to the Baldarsgate series.

Maybe, but i need some decent looking graphics on the games i'm playing, baldur's gate's are HORRIBILE !
This is what you're talking about, right? - HORRIBILE! -
-
you could get the whole dynasty warriors series... when you finish that it will be 2090.
-
heh good to hear that
ill download it right away
-
I already forget, did you try The Witcher
-
dont like it
-
Get a time machine and go to the future, duh. Maybe Mass Effect 10 or Dragon Age 5 will suit your foolish needs. :B

By the way... how come nobody's suggested Planescape: Torment yet?
I'm trying to find a (preferably legal, thank you very much) copy that's not prohibitively expensive. Also preferably in digital download format, but GOG, Steam, Impulse are all turning up blanks. Pfah. -
insanechinaman Notebook Evangelist
I don't think there IS a digital download format for Planescape: Torment, at least, not legal anyways. The disc versions are all $30+... so... I think you're SOL on this one -

BG1 is limited to 800x600 resolution, which is why it doesn't look great. -

Baldur's Gate 1 might look a little ropey by modern terms, but for the age they look spectacular due to the way they were overhead and all hand drawn.
If you can survive the graphics of Baldur's Gate 2 at higher resolution, then look into the BGtutu mod, as it allows you to play Baldur's Gate 1, with the Baldur's Gate 2 engine and classes.
Despite the graphics, Baldur's Gate 1/2 and expansions are still amongst the best CRPGs ever made, and unlike most modern games, it wasnt afraid to stay away from 'casual'.
Such a shame BG3 got cancelled -
BG1, BG2, NWN1, Planescape: Torment - all outstanding games if a bit dated. Check out Avencast and Arx Fatalis for a similar experience, although they're both short too.
I agree with the OP on Witcher. I played through about 50% of it before I lost interest.
+1 for Mass Effect - it's not an extremely long experience but is deeply satisfying. Also, Deus Ex is one of my favorite games of all time and is both long and good. I'm a sucker for well-made action RPGs with excellent stories and good voice acting. -
Also heard some good reviews about fable, fable 2 more exactlly, youtubed it a bit and the gameplay looked really interesting, also had good-looking graphics. Any opinions ?
Btw im in mass effect atm, and yesthe game is awesome, another epic story game it seems, i'll definatly complete it these days.
-
Fable was good - I played through it fully and enjoyed it. To be honest though, I can't remember much more about it other than the graphics were nice and the story was decent. It doesn't stand out in my mind like the others I listed. That's not a negative, it's just that it obviously didn't make much of an impression on me.

Good stuff.

I have the original discs for Planescape but I saw maybe a month ago that they're re-releasing Planescape...could be an option for those interested.
lvnatic I'd strongly advise looking at Planescape, its still rated no. 1 RPG by a number of gaming websites/magazines etc because of how intricate the story was. I think (and I could be wrong) it still has the largest script/word count out of any RPG out there. The graphics are perhaps a little dated but I'd still take a game that had an amazing storyline with slightly less amazing graphics to one that had amazing graphics but a sub-par storyline -

To answer the OP's question succinctly:
"Yes." -
yea I agree with you ,Dragon Age got a small story and I only took 46h:44m:23s (2010/01/25 to 01/29) to complete the game (with more than 70% of Side Quests + Stone Prisoner + Return to Ostagar) it's too sad and map is also small and after finished the game you can't explore the game ,it's finished and if you even need to play rest of side missions and DLCs u need load before slaying the ArcheDaemon
but it's possible in Oblivion unfortunately Oblivion has got a too small story compare with Dragon Age I wish there would be a game like both Oblivion and Dragon Age with a Massive map true open world+ 200hoours hard core play time. -
Good storyline, and Mask of the Betrayer just makes it better. Storms of Zehir is an entirely new campaign in which you can create an entire party out of some new races and classes.
Mass Effect, of course, it legendary if you haven't played it. I hadn't played it until November when it was 9.99 off of Steam, and let me say that it is great. With ME2 allowing you to import your character and the choices from ME1 completely impacting the game, it's EPIC. It's very cool, too, to see some of the cameo voices from DAO appear for some of the characters in ME2. It's first rate, and will likely end up game of the year. -

Oblivion. If you can finish that game 100% I'll be impressed. Truth be told I don't think anyone has ever finished it completely. To do so would probably be 200+ hours.
Is there any similar game to dragon age but longer?
