Hi, Been looking for the new Gateway FX laptop and came upon this one. It has exactly the same hardware but doesn't mention anything about a video card. Is this the same one as the FX model for $100 less or am I just having false hope![]()

GM965 Chipset = X3100 I think.
-
It has an integrated card.

It talks about vivid and next generation gaming though
I checked on google and all comes to the FX model -
correct, it is x3100 GPU

Says that about the screen. Nothing about being actually able to run games.
-
Here it says the FX has the same chipset, but with the extra memory

Yeah , but thats only Intels opinion about the X3100 -- we think else .
-
Integrated graphics can take up a nice chunk of your RAM to use as video memory. An X3100 is still an X3100. Rule of thumb: if theres no dedicated section listing a graphics card, it's probably an X3100. They usually list dedicated cards since they are selling points, where as the X3100 is not.
-
It's actually a different chipset that supports a dedicated GPU.

Actually, as Arquis already pointed out, the text was in reference to the screen quality and NOT video card prowess.
-
whoops my bad, didnt see the "PM" haha. Could possibly have a dedicated card, although that is very unlikely.

the Gateway® P-171X uses a 90 watt power adapter, the P-6831FX uses a 120 watt power adapter. Thats more than proof enough.
-
No problem
For the FX it states "512MB Graphics", so I would assume it's dedicated because AFAIK there is no 512MB integrated card. -
Ok...thanks guys for the help. Now to keep on searching for a cheaper FX then Bestbuy has
Cheers -
Actaully the P-171X is slated for a January 31st Release and includes the following...from a 3rd party website I was on Earlier...[cant recall the name]
...The Gateway P-171X FX Edition comes with the new Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 processor, NVIDIA® GeForce? 8800M GTS 512MB GDDR3, 17-inch WUXGA display, 3072MB of DDR2 SDRAM, a 200GB(1) 7200RPM SATA hard drive and a slot-load multi-format dual layer DVD-R/RW/DVD-RAM drive with LabelFlash technology(2). It is priced at $1,999.99.
