I will be traveling a lot the next year so a desktop is not practical right now. There is no i5 option, this is the lowest processor option. Believe it or not I think I might have found a better deal from CyberPower, check this one out please. It is a 15.6 inch so may be better for me as far as portability. Also it has an SSD, I can configure with 750gb 7200 rpm traditional drive for 17 dollars less. Thanks a lot for the help.

So does anyone know a better set up for less than the second laptop I posted. Or is this pretty much the best price I can find. I'm looking for the cheapest laptop possible that has a GTX 680m or AMD 7970m and components that will not bottleneck the GPU. I think this laptop at $1,357 gives me just that but I would like to make sure, still a big investment for me.

2nd laptop looks good already, if possible you can buy the ssd aftermarket and install it yourself same with windows 7 if you can get it cheaper, i'd also suggest upgrading the wireless card to an intel 62xx or 63xx.
-
Yeah I am leaning towards the CyberPower because it is 15". They seem pretty reputable and they also work with my military exchange which means free shipping and NO TAX, which saves a whole lot more on top.
A few questions though.
- I can upgrade to windows 8 for free but i'm not sure about that, I have seen it and I really prefer windows 7, what do you all think?
- This is some pretty powerful hardware, how is the cooling/ventilation on the Clevo P150EM (Sager9150)?
- As far as ram I can get 1x8gb or 2x4gb for same price, same speed and brand. Any difference?
- Every benchmark and review site has the AMD 7970m card as the fastest or second fastest (second to Nvidia 680M) GPU made for laptops, however the Nvidia 670MX (3gb) and 675M (4gb) are actually a little more for these laptops. Why is this and should I still go with the 7970m (680m is significantly more)?
- Someone has mentioned that this particular SSD is a low end model and 250gb is a little low seeing as it is my only drive, with that said I do not usually use a ton of space and performance is most important. From what I have heard an SSD helps load times etc. but does not effect fps, I have a 7200rpm HDD now and load times are not bad. Should I go with a 750gb 7200rpm traditional hard drive just to be safe (17$ cheaper also)?
I know that is a lot of questions, thanks a lot for the help. I will be living off this thing for about 9 months so I want to make sure it is good. -
You could have a look at XoticPC's offer of Clevo/Sager laptops:
Custom Laptops, Gaming Notebooks, Custom Gaming Laptops | XOTIC PC
Also, when considering an SSD vs HDD, definitely go with the former. There is a tremendous difference in system performance and snappiness in favor of the SSD, not worth saving 17$. Even lowest end SSD will be many times faster than a HDD. What is more, in the laptops You mentioned, there are 2 HDD bays (Tundra P1-701M is a Clevo P170EM rebrand), so You can use both SSD and HDD in one system: first one for Windows and programs, second one for general storage. -

The Cyberpower with the Samsung 840 looks like a good deal.

I'm almost decided on most of the components, which wireless card should I go with? First one is included in price.
Wireless 802.11 b/g/n WiFi Card
Intel® Centrino™ Advanced-N 6235 Wireless 802.11 a/g/n 300Mbps Dual-Band Wi-Fi + Bluetooth Combo [Intel WiDi Ready] [+9]
Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300 a/b/g/n Wireless Adapter [Intel WiDi Ready] [+26]
Killer Wireless-N 1202 802.11 n + Bluetooth [+20] -
Go with the Killer for $20 dude. Are you deploying? If your going to be on a FOB or ship or something the 17" would probably be better. I'd get an NP 9170.
-
Save your self $11 and get the Intel 6235. Killer cards are just rebranded qualcomm atheros cards running "custom" software. Marketing at its finest!
-
looking good there. You're set for at least the next year if not more.
-
I believe I have decided on a final build. Believe it or not I found another $100.00 off coupon bringing the price down to $1,266 (free shipping and NO tax). I have spent days looking at tons of websites configuring every option and I believe this is the cheapest I can possibly find a gaming laptop of this caliber. Can anyone offer any possible better deal on a high end gaming laptop, if you can please let me know? I welcome comments on any individual component or the system performance/price as a whole. Thanks a lot.

WOW!!! That is an incredible deal. I'm in the same boat, a similar machine but I dumped about $1700 into it. Have fun and play some good games.

Thanks a lot guys, I ended up purchasing this laptop.
Is this a good set up for high end gaming? Is it a good deal?
