I am considering purchasing this laptop, the Asus G1SN-AK014C

    It will have:
    Intel® Core™2 Duo Santa Rosa Processor T 8300 (2.4 GHz, 64 bit, FSB800 )
    SATA HDD 250 GB ( 5400 RPM)
    15.4" (WSXGA+) Colour Shine (1680 x 1050)
NVidia GeForce 9500M GS DDR II 512 MB
    DVD Super Multi LightScribe
    3072 Mb DDR2 667 (1024 x1, 2048 x 1)
    Intel 4965ABGN WLAN
Video Camera built-in (1.3 million pixels)
    In-Built Bluetooth
    Microsoft® VISTA HOME PREMIUM

Is this set up capable of playing current games with at least medium settings? I have already ruled out on it playing crysis at this level But i would be happy if it could play most others. Thanks for any replies.

yeah, you should be fine playing games on medium settings. I have the 8600GS (a bit weaker than the 9500GS) and i play TF2 on high settings with ~30fps at 1440x900.

Hold on though, at your native resolution you will take a hit on performance compared to me. Wait and see if anyone else knows how much of a hit that will be. I cant see it being that drastic though.

With a custom, optimized config even Crysis would playable just fine. Just not at native res - but 1280x800 is a fine alternative.

If you've got the choice, I would but this laptop with a 1440x900 resolution. You'll be able to play lots more games @ native res. In my opinion 1440x900 is the best res. for 15.4".

Keep in mind, the 9500M GS is simply a renamed 8600M GT with a few tweaks. Consider benchmarks for the one to be about the same as the other.

that notebook is pretty strong, it should be able to handle most games.
