Is this idea possible? (Formating / Partitions)

So I was thinking of formating my disk and reinstalling my original Vista Home Premium, because my *ahem* version of Ultimate boots up slow and randomly crashes quite often.

Anyways, so I have Partition Manager 9.0 Professional and because I don't have external HDD I had this idea.

My HDD is made into two partitions by start (OS and Recovery) - but the Recovery partition is only 10GB, so if I make the partition larger, let's say around 40GB - I can put all my stuff (music, pictures and some games) to that partition and then format and reinstall my OS on the OS partition and then after Vista reinstall, I'll just copy my stuff back to the OS partition.

Would it work? Anyone done it? Would there anything to look out for?

    Thanks.
