I have a friend who is beta testing windows 7, he said it was awesome and built off of xp. Vista is a major resource hog so you want ample amounts of ram. GO with Vista for now but when in doubt re-format and use xp atleast till windows 7

Windows 7 is built off of Vista not XP. Vista also isn't a resource hog, it just uses your resources more efficiently. As for Vista or Windows 7 (XP is dead let it rot) use Windows 7 the RC is out Tuesday and apparently good for a year. So far it is great if you are a gamer, I am using it now on older hardware and Windows 7 is performing better than I had imagined.

You clearly do not know what you are talking about.
Vista is no more of a resource hog when compared to XP than XP is compared to Windows 2000.
And as others have said, Windows 7 is based on Vista, not XP.

    Ok, silly!

Of course in your case, if you get it used on eBay that's a different story. I'm talking a newly released store bought PC.

I am still a strong advocate for XP, as I still use that primarily, but I'm slowly getting used to Vista, despite the stuff that I'm uncomfortable with, or annoyed me about it.

I'm also in the process of getting my MCTS for Vista, so I better at least use it a bit. Although looks like I should jump right in and get my MCTS for Win7 ASAP.
