    I bought Crysis Warhead yesterday!
Installed it and played the game all day on all enthusiast settings 1920x1200 resolution and 16x AA!

I dont know what FPS I was getting, but I mean the game was running smooth at max res and settings.

Then I go brag to all my buddies about how well my laptop was handling this monster requirement game and start it up and....Im getting probably 10 FPS!

    !!!

I start to lower settings and still crappy FPS it only wanted to run smooth in the minimum resolution.

Any tips or reasons for this sudden odd behavior?

I totally think you are dreaming, 16x AA, do you have like 2 GB of video memory? I know a triSLi GTX285 system run out of memory when doing 16x AA yeilding like 4fps

Heh, with Dual 9800GTX's, that WOULD be 2GB Video RAM...

SLI with two 1gb video cards does NOT equal to 2 gb of vRAM. The video cards run in parallel with the same information in the memory on both video cards. So technically you still only have 1gb of vRAM.

Hey, just to say a guy with a three way GTX285 with 8XAA just managed a smooth game play in Crysis/ Crysis Warhead.

I don't really see the point of bragging here, ask serious questions.

    Lol..

Yep, that's true. Still made me laugh that he did have those two cards, though, and technically it is 2GB of video ram, even if the data is just the same on both.

He was probably running on battery, that would definitely explain the drastic power drop.

He was never getting smooth gameplay at 16xAA though, regardless of battery.

    Sorry guys for the delay!

    Ok here goes

For some reason the game does not like to run smooth in SLI mode.
So I lowered AA on 4X and disabled SLI!

Now I have the game running smoothly in All Enthusiast settings @1920x1200 res with V Synce off and AA on 4X in non SLI mode.

    Thanks for the advice!

Well give us the fps the, type in r_displayinfo = 1 in the console. I have my doubts you are running with 4xAA and 1920x1200 Enthusiast smoothly when barely my desktop 8800GTX manages that at 1440x900 smoothly. With smoothly I mean the FPS always over 30 fps, else it´s not smoothly.

Now I am talking without any cheating peformance config. If I run with a config no problem. But smoothly on a single 8800GT (9800m GTX lower clocks) with 4xAA, I would like to see that when you hit the ice levels :)

Give us the average FPS you are getting with a single GPU.

It only runs ok for me on my desktop at 1920x1080 with dual 4850's and a 3.6ghz Q6600.

But almost noboldy uses 16AA he probably meant AF. If Warhead is like the first one and I am sure it is there are two kinds of AA.

The normal AA and Edge AA. The first may take some jaggies away but does not effect the vegitation and things, and you can not have them both on at the same time.

EdgeAA blurs out the edges of vegetation and effects several other things in the game, so it looks better than AA does in Crysis, plus even better yet its easier on the system to run.

So this also means with a custom config forcing edge AA it would be turning off the AA even if you had it set high. So that is also a possibility.

    Thank you!

    Screw the haters!

I forgot if its AA or AF whatever one is in the settings menu above V Sync.

I have it set to 4x!

Meh Magnus I dont know the exact FPS and really don't care much to go any further looking into it what your definition of smoothly is.

The game runs smooth with these settings with no hesitation whatsover.

I play around with the game for a while and now unfortunately besides having a total destructible enviroment and the breathtaking graphics ,its quite boring just like all other FPSs. And Im ready to delete it and put the game in thee ole shoebox.

nope, SLI does not combine memory, but rater each card has individual access to 1GB.

The VRAM is shared, but each card is rendering alternate frames (If I remember correctly how it's done).

I find that the best way to check FPS is to use a program called FRAPS.
This shows a counter in one of the screen corners showing how many frames you are getting.

You can even use it to record the framerate for a certain time, so that you have it logged, and is easier to find when posting a review

    Hope this helps

You probably might need to get a better driver. Try Dox 185.20, or 181.22. Both very good drivers. Dox 185.20 gives the best performance for Crysis Warhead, and the same if not a little bit better performance in the Crysis 1.

Though warhead is so much better then the first game that, that would not matter.

DOX 185.20 is good for both Crysis Games and gives me the smoothest best FPS in every other game as well. Use that driver.

Hope i helped. Oh and the Crysis Record i got was using 185.20, so it is a very good driver.

From what I believe, NVidia and ATI dont really make drivers for mobile GPUs but rather for Desktop GPUs.
Nvidia has recently started but are still far away from what people have developed as individuals, such as DOX (Great man!)

Yea I think the stock drivers that came pre installed with my laptop just may be the most stable.

Im real cautious about getting new drivers...anyone else upgrade drivers for thier 9800GTX/SLI??

Actually the driver I mentioned in my previous post [179.28] is nvidia's first dedicated notebook driver, and I was just wondering how it compared to DoX's latest beast :D :D
