I always assumed Crysis would be better, but apparently crysis is just not that fun. (By apparently, i mean imo)

So, far cry 2 has the potential to be better than crysis. it won't be very hard. just thought i would point it out.

Just a random thought, I HATED how Crysis looked. I don't think it's more real than anything, the images are just more sharpened. But yeah, hated it. I think FC2 looks good, it doesn't have that many white corners and edges as Crysis.

I fully agree, loved the original far cry though!

Amazing summed up how I felt about it, sharp graphics but nothing ground breaking to me, played the MP Beta and SP demo and just couldn't get hooked on it. To each his own :)

Considering they`re both built on the cryengine 2, they actually look very similar. So phooey.

The game looks good but has basically nothing the original had. No more trigens, no more Jack Carver (he is so awesome!), no more mercaneries with hilarious one-liners (I'm gonna shoot you in the face!!!!)

Far Cry 2 will be stunning and bury Crysis :D

I'm pretty sure Crysis was just one big tech demo and an experiment for their engine, and Far Cry 2 will benefit from that

Edit: And now please excuse me for my ignorance. Far Cry 2 is not using CryEngine 2 nor is it being developed by CryTek

Crysis is alright. it didn't exceed everyones unreasonable expectations and hype but it's still a solid shooter. if i had to choose couple of shooters that came out in 2007/2008, Crysis would definitely be one of them. it's better to have Crysis than no Crysis at all

As far as I'm concerned, Far Cry 2 looks boring. It isn't Far Cry.

    Crysis was great, I thought.

Yes it isn't far cry, thats why its far cry 2. :)

why does it even matter if they up the requirements. low end will play at low settings. mid-range will play at med settings. high-end will play at high settings. it's not like they're keeping steady a HL2 graphics and just upping the requirements. just because hardcore gaming rig can play the game to its full potential doesn't mean the game should offer similar experiences on slower systems. not all companies are like Blizzard and cater to the masses. and let's not discuss optimization because that's entirely different issue.

edit: to make it clear, in most cases, a high setting a year ago is not equivalent to high setting now. CoD 4 on low setting may surpass CoD 2 on high setting. i can't actually test this claim but you get the idea. let's not penalize developers for actually pushing the envelope to another level however bad the game may turn out to be.

Far Cry 2 will probably be fairly demanding based on what they claim you'll be able to do/experience in the game.

I guess it was made to jump the 9 series sales. I'm sure nVidia will promote 9 series on the main site for the 9 series!

Yeah Crysis was pretty meh. I only played the demo and I got sick of it - it had like zero attraction. It's like early Vista - it looked good, and umm yeah that's it.

Far Cry on the other hand was amazing :D. It better be just as awesome.

I was hoping for pictures on this game, however none are forthcoming and practically everyone who's posted on this thread seems to have seen the prototype screenshots and done comparisons.

I have a feeling this might be a Crysis redux, lots of people are going to groan and wince at what will probably be ridiculous hardware requirements to get the game to both look good and play nice.

Yup, expect serious system requirements again.

I reckon Far Cry 2 will sell better than Crysis because A) They've had time to play and analysis Crysis and what people thought of it. B) More peoples systems will be able to handle Far Cry 2 (to a reasonable degree).

I thouroughly enjoyed Crysis. We need companies like this to keep pushing the envelope for gaming. Yeah I know heaps of people don't have systems capable of running this game. Crysis takes heaps of flak and it annoyes me. Yeah, the gameplay isn't groundbreaking and amazing, but its still fun.

I was suitably "wow'd" by the graphics and the physics system. I reckon its heaps better than COD4, which feels fake to me (still an awesome game).

I also appreciate the fact that the developers knew they were going to take a loss in sales to make a game that pushes the hardware forward another step.

Sin's of a Solar Empires, a new 4X/RTS game thats just been released, is an incredible game, but my one major gripe with the game is I don't think the graphics are anything special. Was this deliberate, yes it was. The developers stated they would make the graphics not so great so that they could get the widest possible sales. Smart business move, yes. But it doesn't advance the technology involved much...

So kudos to those smart people locked away in studio's who developed Crysis...

Now I just want someone to grab the Crytek engine and run with it!

Is it just me, or does anyone think that Far Cry is over-rated? I mean, besides having good graphics the following things are undisputable:

    1) The AI has serious issues; it ruins the gameplay
    2) The story line is generic, unimaginative and completely cliche.
    3) The game itself has no innovative features beyond the high drawing distance.

And for some reason, Far Cry is comapred to Half-Life 2, a game that excels in all the areas above... ?

Its hard to live up to being massively overhyped, Crysis is good for what is, not what it was made out to be for the years we were waiting impaitently and dropping tons of cash into rigs that still cant play it to its full potential. Thankfully I'm not on that list, the demo will suffice until either the price drops to $30 or I have a system that can play it full bore at 1680x1050.

Far Cry is over rated. I wouldn't call it one of the best FPS made, like a lot of people do. I downloaded it off D2D since it was $10, and wasn't really amazed. But hey, it was only $10 so I'm still happy lol. Never ended up beating it though, since I lost interest as soon as I got CoD4 :p But yeah I got tired of enemies shooting me from across a freakin' valley while I was hiding behind a tree.

Personally , I thought Far Cry was crap. I heard I was supose to meat aliens and all but I got bored when I entered the first vehicle and assaulted the first base.
I`m hoping Far Cry 2 will not continue the story,I`d hate to have to borrow FC just to know what happened.
I like storylines more than graphics... :D

Yeah I never understood all the grief over the requirements of Crysis, since they are technically lower requirements than SplinterCell, R6 Vegas, and a few others that require SM3.0 cards to even play the game.

If I can play crysis on a T5450+1.5GB RAM+GFGO7600 in Vista with only the rare hitch, then it should be pretty playable for most true gamers. People seem to forget that when FartCry came out it too couldn't be played at highest settings on Radeon 9800s, and once they added the 1.3 patch GF6800s were brought to their knees too.

I'd rather a game scale in both directions, giving me future replayability. People seem to want to be giving weak graphics at first and pay extra for a 5-10hr expansion pack to et more later, as if that's a good thing.

If they could easily add DX11 graphics now I'd love that on game I could consider a classic. I don't consider Crysis anymore of a classic than FartCry, but if all the shiny DX10 goodness could've shipped with HL2 and Oblivion when they shipped I know I wouldn't complain.

Anywhoo, I've been interested in FC2 since last year when they early demoed the first level, but I don't expect it to be significantly better/worse than Crysis, and will never provide the same gameplay as COD4, it's just not built with that type of Multiplayer style in mind.

Although I like FPSs alot, I'm looking forward to Fallout3 more than FC2.

can you name at least 10 FPS that were made in last 5 years that surpasses FarCry? i'd love to see your list and get a sense of your gaming standards.

Yeah I've been calling it FartCry since the original GF6800 driver exploit/floptimization, it's like calling Quake, Quack. :D

And actually I found FartCry ok, but I was more impressed by the implementation of graphic properties than gameplay. Multiplayer was OK, but overall it wasn't as impressive to me as for others, kinda like Crysis, not overly for or overly against it.

I think it looks better than crysis

BUT please oh please have something like the sandbox2

And the trees and vegetation have a special engine to them so wind and stuff moves them :D

Crysis on high/very high is mezmerizing... lets hope FC2 has a lot of water and stuff... and no random walls that you cant go over because they say so

And the no loading in game sounds sweeet

But fart cry was crap. This is getting ridiculous . "I got to get out of here" .

Far Cry was fairly revolutionary when it came out. It may not seem revolutionary anymore, but it was back then. I still think it is fun to play.

Well, good for you. It`s all about taste, and that`s not something you can argue with.

My all time favourite fps is definitely HL2.
I`ll never forget how it was when I first played at and screenshot pretty much every part of it just so that I can look at it closely. And man, is it still beautiful...
I`m hoping Far cry 2 will make me feel the same thing.
