...Some of the older members might remember this post I made about 2 years ago. Well it's time for me to go back to the box again and I'm looking for some single player / LAN games that I can stock up on.
For single players games I'm looking for games released between 2009 and now. I currently have:
Dragon age: Origins
Dragon age: 2
Bulletstorm
Front mission: Evolved
Dead Rising 2
Mass Effect 2
Darksiders
Sins of a Solar Empire
...and probably a few more that I can't think of.
For LAN games I'm looking at anything good pretty much ever created that can be run on a LAN, either direct cable or through a self made WI-FI hotspot.
I'll be running these on my M11x R2 so there shouldn't be a game out there this thing can't run.
-
Portal 2 will be two player, should be fun.
-
Companies seem to be abandoning LAN. But you can pick up Bad Company 2 on the cheap now with a decent single player as far as FPS goes with decent MP.
Bulletstorm is one of the most fun FPS games made in a very long time. Play the game by being creative, go for the skill shots, go for the points. If you think about realism or playing tactically, it's boring. But if you go for creative kills, it's a blast. My favorite game of 2011 so far.
DA2 is disappointing, probably pass on that, play DA:O instead.
If you haven't played The Witcher, play that as Witcher 2 is coming soon.
Darksiders was a fun hack n slash game with entertaining skills, and the puzzles while ripped from various games, are done so well, they are great. If you don't think about Zelda or Portal, then again, it's a blast.
For LAN, I'm blanking. Maybe pick up the original Starcraft again?
And the M11 R2 should be able to play all of the above on medium or low, but I wouldn't expect anything more than that. I think your Clevo in your signature would be a lot more fun to game on. -
There's Magicka for LAN
-
While I do love my Sager it's just too heavy to ruck all over Afghanistan.
And I did forget about Magicka. Played that game with some buddies a couple months ago, it's pretty entertaining. -
Civ 5
Just cause 2 -
Torchlight is a wonderful single player time waster.
-
assassin creed
-
love it!
-
Warzone 2100: A Real-Time Strategy game
Warzone 2100, free and a solid strategy game for any lan.
You also seem to have missed Dead Space & Dead Space 2 off your single player list as well as Bioshock & Bioshock 2. -
The Current list that I've made are games that I already own, so if it's not on there then feel free to post it. -

Hmm I'll second the recommendation for torchlight. If your into that kind of game its cheap, looks good, and can eat a lot of time.
If I was going "in the box" my best friend would honestly be MAME and ZSNES with a good joystick and SNES controller
Magicka is also fun, not sure how long it can keep you entertained but its another cheap title and it does support LAN a feature becoming more sparse in todays games.
Poker Night at the Inventory a good single player Poker game that is fun.
Also a must get Super Meat Boy. Its single player and will take you a long time to beat/master and best part is its great training because after you die about 80 times on the same stage you will be ready to go kill people. -
Fallout series (mainly 3 and New Vegas). Shouldn't run bad, maybe not at max settings, but definitely well.
-
I beat fallout 3 during my last deployment, and I really didn't care for it. Maybe that's why I've got New Vegas and haven't even installed it yet.
It might have had something to do with the fact that the scenary from Fallout 3 reminded me of where I was, because there was garbage everywhere and nothing was clean (in both places that is). -
if you have alot of time in your hands, try Assassins creed series
-
I'm actually looking for a good hack n' slash game as I haven't played one in a long time. Dragon Age 2 almost feels hack and slashy as they dulled down the rpg content for more action, but it's not quite what I'm looking for as far as that genre goes. -
I'm anti-social so I wouldn't know what to play on a LAN (when we deployed on the carrier, Unreal Tournament was all that we played...and I think UT2004 is the series' pinnacle), but for single player that hasn't been mentioned, I would recommend the following:
Singularity - Raven can do no wrong. Interesting mechanic.
Bulletstorm - If FPS is your thing. My list will tell you that I have a short attention span. Very juvenile, very fun.
Starcraft 2 - Blizzard, also, can do now wrong.
Already mentioned games that I would second:
Just Cause 2 - See note for Bulletstorm
Civilization 5 - Will keep you busy for as long as you can stand it
And if action RPG (hack-n-slash?) is your thing, then I think Torchlight is a must buy...at the risk of being branded a heretic, I enjoyed it more than Diablo 2...it appealed to my shorter attention span...Diablo 2 caused agony over every point allocation...
PS. Almost forgot...wait...I did forget and then I forgot that I forgot...until I got off the wife's iMac and onto my beloved m1710... Deathspank is a fun (and funny) hack-n-slash... -
Yeah, I wasn't going to mention Starcraft 2 because no LAN, but yeah single player is LONG and engaging.
-
Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne, Custom map Dota, LOL

I would recommend Civilization V if you're into RTS games. From what I hear, it can keep you busy for months and months.
-
If you just want a hack n slash game, then I would go with Darksiders. The mouse and keyboard controls were great, customizable, I had no issues with it.
DA2 as far as hack n slash goes, is pretty good too, watching 3 enemies explode when your 2H Warrior leaps in the air and crushes them is pretty awesome. -
-
1) It doesn't have LAN
2) If you don't log in once a month you get locked out of single player (unless they changed this). I most likely won't have internet, so that can be a problem. I've also beat the single player campaign already, but I could probably do another go-round.
Also, how's Two Worlds? Watched a buddy play it on XBox for a bit and it looked decent enough. -
What? Never heard of getting locked out of single player. That's just absurd if they do that.
-
warhammer 40000 dawn of war 2!! game is legit!

Check out...
- Borderlands(4 player co-ops)
- TM nations (fun, and free) -
-
Actually Lord of the Rings RTS games are quite fun too.
-
What's TM Nations? Haven't heard of that before.
I've played the first dawn of war 2, and thought it was a lot of fun. I definitely liked the squad based combat of it, but I thought the multiplayer was garbage.
Another old game series that I never got to play was Homeworld. I'm not sure if any of those games will work on Windows 7 though, or if there's anywhere I can find them. -
Trackmania Nations is a free racing game. TrackMania Nations United is the paid game with tons more tracks and stuff. Great fun.
You can get the Middle Earth Anthology (I & II + Expansion) for $25 on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Rings-Battle-Middle-Earth-Anthology-Pc/dp/B000N4JEN2 -
Metro 2033 - The story is amazing...
Medal of Honor 2010 - The SP is VERY good, tho for MP you should get BC2 -
Homeworld cataclysm and Homeworld 2 worked last time I checked, never really got into Homeworld 2 but the story on Homeworld cataclysm was amazing.
-
Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2
Play them multiple times and go through the different iterations of it.
Its a deployment. Not like you don't have lots of time to kill -
I think you need to put a post somewhere stating which games you currently own and are bringing outfield, and which games you have heard of but have no interest in.
What about RE5? -
It's deployment time again...
