I'm excited about purchasing my PS3. I noticed the prices had dropped so I had to pick one up. I did some thinking and I was either going to get a gaming laptop or get a nice laptop and a PS3. So I went with the Playstation and I think that was the better choice (considering the the gaming laptop costs more than a laptop and a ps3).

I was wondering who has the PS3 and are there any things you can do with the PS3 that I might not know about?

Are there any games you would recommend for it?

How do you like your PS3?

Make sure you update to the lastest firmware. There are some nice add-ons since it's release (e.g. DVD upscaling, streaming audio/video from another computer, downloading in the background, etc.).

Hottest games for PS3 right now: Motorstorm, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Resistance, and Virtua Fighter 5.

I see it as Wii > PS3 with more games > Red Ring of Death.

I've got an Xbox 360 and a PS3; only reason I don't have a Wii is because I haven't been able to find one to buy yet.

I honestly haven't been using my PS3 much for games..... at least PS3-specific games. I traded in my PS2 to get it, so it's mainly still playing PS2 stuff.

I have been enjoying the Ninja Gaiden Sigma demo a lot though, and will probably buy it. At some point I'll probably get MotorStorm too.

It's definitely been kind of a dry spell, but some of the stuff coming out actually does interest me a lot, and make me glad I do have a PS3; Drake's Fortune, echochrome, LittleBigPlanet, Heavenly Sword, MGS4, whatever the new Wipeout game is called, etc.

In the meantime, it has been nice having a blu-ray player (been renting movies from netflix, and can see the difference).

H3 will own all in the fall, but PS3 will hold its own with Heavenly Sword, Haze, and Drake's Fortune.

    Proud PSWii60 owner here, folks!

Overall, I think Halo 3 will own...

but with Metal Gear Solid 4:
    http://www.gametrailers.com/player/22702.html

    and KILLZONE 2:
    http://www.gametrailers.com/player/21504.html

We'll have plenty of things to bow down to on the PS3 as well.

Big upcoming games for the system are Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Lair, MGS4 (above), Uncharted :Drake's Fortune, Haze (timed exclusive), LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2 (above), UT3 (Timed exclusive).

That's not to mention quality multiplatform games like DMC4, CoD4, Assassin's Creed, GTA4 and others.

You really can't go wrong this gen. All 3 systems have such awesome games coming out it's unreal. Poverty ahoy!

as of right now, i think the ps3 is a worthless gaming system and will be for at least another year.

That being said, its future excited me much more than that of the 360s.. games such as mgs4, ff13, ff13 versus, littlebigplanet and god of war 3 will make me buy one in a year or 2.

Halo 3 in my opinion is overhyped, and the franchise highly overrated. While i do enjoy the game, and think it is a blast to play.. it isn't INCREDIBLE like everyone makes it out to be.

For 2007 though, the wii easily takes the cake with smash brothers brawl, metroid prime 3 and mario galaxy all coming out this year.

I almost completely agree with you. My friend owns a PS3 and yeah its pretty much worthless for now, except for resistance (better than Halo IMHO), but it is pretty sleek and the outlook is good for the future. My bro plans to get a 360 in college and he will be visiting often (I may buy one myself...may).

Halo is WAAAAAY over-rated, the only thing halo is good for is Red vs. Blue. Other than that i see no point in it. Mods for half-life are more entertaining than that.

As for recommendations, Resistance (if you don't already have it), MGS4, Heavenly sword, and the battle system for FFXIII looks awesome. Although graphics are not high on my priorities list (hence why i bought a Wii) the PS3 can pump out some pretty impressive visuals.

HALO 3 - Microsoft could crap in a box, slap halo 3 on it and sell the hell out of it. Has any seen the beta? it looks just like halo 2. I know they said they were going to improve the graphics and all since the beta, but i highly doubt it will look better than gears of war or resistance.

ps3>360. People who get the ps3 know they will be getting a great machine that will last them TEN YEARS of life before sony ditches it. Look at the original playstation and ps2. There is no question about who got the better deal from a ps2 or an xbox, because sony is still backing up the ps2.

Right now games for the ps3 is pretty limited, but remember the 360 had an entire year head start, and sony has promise to catch up in a year i believe is what the time frame was. Right now my brother has for his ps3 Resistance which is really fun, motorstorm, nhl 2k7 (i play that every day) and a couple of others i can't think of.

The ps3 supports linux. It alsp has a pretty nifty web browser that plays youtube videos (thank the iphone for that). If you have a router you can access your computer's entire hard drive through the internet (it has to be a router because it has to have the same ip address). Then what is really cool is that if you have a psp you can set up remote play between the psp and the ps3 so you can access your ps3 AND computer from anyhwere you have a wifi connection.

Oh and ps3 supports AAC and AVC, where to the best of my knowledge the 360 does not. AAC (advanced audio codec) and AVC (advanced video codec) keeps the quality of previous file types but are like half the file size. Its really great for saving storage. It has true support for hd quality movies as you should know already, with a standard hdmi and blu ray player, for you to reach that with an xbox you have to buy the elite/halo version and a 200 dollar hd dvd player, and its still inferior to blu ray.

Oh and i almost forgot, you should pick up the new fragfx controller from splitfish, its basically a mouse and a wii nunchuck, and will work for ANY game, not just the ones that has mouse support. Look into it if you want a huge advantage over everyone else in multiplayer.

Sorry the post was so long -_-

EDIT: i gotta get this out, resistance if better than gears imho, the over the shoulder layout of gears is extremely annoying. Yes gears has better graphics than resistance most of the time, EXCEPT in the level near the end of the game where you are running outside in resistance and the snow is falling, WOW. That is the prettiest level i have ever seen in a console game, and that level looks much better than the entire game of gears.

PS. I have 2 brothers, one owns a 360 and the other a ps3. I am not a ps3 fanboy. I refuse to buy either, except perhaps a wii.

i have a PS3, and have been enjoying Resistance, Darkness, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and NHL 2k7.

reason i bought it over an xbox 360 is simple. the games on the PS3, are ones that i have been watching for a long time. FF series is huge for me, and since its on PS3, thats where im going with my money.

For xbox 360, there are not many games i would like to play. I feel that the Halo series is very overrated. the newest one looks exactly as the second one to me. also, with 100% failure rate on the xbox 360 makes me like my ps3 even more.

being able to upgrade my hard drive, install linux, browse my network for media servers, play games online, and watch the best PQ movies i have ever laid eyes on....was worth the $600 price on the PS3. now with updates coming where you can play music from your hard drive IN game...its gonna be great.

I am not a fanboy by any means either. I did own an xbox, and loved it for KOTOR. granted, LIVE is at this point better then PS3's online service...but that comes from being out for so much longer.

with the amount of awesome games coming out for PS3 in the near future, and the nice price drop, AND 5 free blu-ray movies....how did you not buy one yet?

i tried to keep my opinion as civil as possible...too many fanboys out there..

all the companies are making it hard for me to choose a system. I have a 360 already, but it's staying home with my brother when I go off to college so I need to choose one! Wii is coming out with brawl and then I'll also want zelda: twilight princess, the new metriod game, wii play, super mario galaxy, and mario kart wii (w/e it's called). The wii is most affordable and supe smash bros has very addictive gameplay (more addictive than FPS's like counter-strike:source or halo) and if it goes online, it will be the most valuable game ever. Now the PS3 is finally kicking in some good worth while games (funny how idiot's were saying how much the 360 is dominating even though IT CAME OUT A YEAR EARLIER THAN THE WII AND PS3). Ratchet and Clank is one of my all time favorites and I guarantee it will be one of PS3's best because the developers are amazing (they did something a little different and made resistance). Killzone 2 looks good along with heavenly sword and the hits don't stop there. Hopefully next year we'll see Final Fantasy 13 and MGS4 comes out (that new 15min gameplay video looks awesome). There are even more flagship titles coming on the PS3 which I can't think of. Also it's a affordable blue ray player, looks sleek, and runs pretty quiet with a new price. Then there's the 360 of course which already has plenty of great titles and coming out with halo 3 and other goodes. I think I'll purchase a Wii because nintendo has always provides the best multiplayer systems to play with friends (NOT ONLINE, BUT WITH 3 OTHER PEOPLE). Maybe brawl and mario kart will change that =p.

The only thing is that the wii won't have sports games the way I like them and I'll be missing out on the chance to have a blueray player. I hope my decision will be the best one. No I don't dislike xbox 360. Like I said before, I already own one at home so I don't want to buy another to take with me to campus.

Anyways, the game I want to play and own more than anything else is Crysis followed by Brawl. yeah, I don't care much for halo 3.

    too the person above me

the 360 didn't fail dude, lol. thankfully mine hasn't broken down (yet?).

If you havent played it yet, get Elder Scrolls: Oblivion for the PS3... its just as good as the other version... but includes the expansions.

I am looking forward to MGS4, Resident Evil 5, Devil May Cry, Sillent Hill, and..

Unreal Tournament 3.... exclusive to only PS3 (for consoles) and the PC.

I'm gonna chime in with two other games. While not a masterpiece, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is fun. It's available for a lot of different platforms though and the 360 version is better than the ps3 one, on acounting the downloadable content on the 360 (new heroes and whatnot). You gotta pay though.

Virtua Tennis 3 is also fun, all though the graphics could be better. The same goes for Marvel: Ultimate alliance. And i play on a 40" 1080p TV (both games are 1080p).

Then, of course, there's Resitance: Fall of Man. I like the offline multiplayer capabilities (4 players), although the lack of bots can make it a tad boring at times. While it's "only" 720p, it looks better than the two mentioned above.

MGS4 and FFXIII will be two MAJOR killer titles for PS3. My friend's considering getting a ps3 just for those two games (all though he's gonna wait for prices to drop and maybe get it second hand).

Xbox 360 > Wii > PS3... well, when it comes to games, this is how I look at it. My Xbox 360 got the 3RL three weeks ago. Damn you Microsoft! I just don't know how to send it to them for repairs. They keep on blabbering that all 360s with 3RL will be fixed, we don't even know how to send it to them in the first place.

And oh... Crysis and Project Offset > Any game on the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii =P

Even though Xbox had problems with the red ring of death they are still outselling the PS3. PS3 has been at the bottom of the selling list since it was released.

Nintendo is of course kicking butt and taking names. DS sold 561,900 in June (thats incredible) and the Wii sold 281,000 to once again hold its spot as the #1 selling console. 427k copies of Mario Party 8 were sold (top game of the month).

Sony sold 98k and Microsoft sold 198k.
I would just like to point out that all consoles had a boost in sales last month.

Both systems (360 and PS3) are good. Microsoft has the advantage because they've been out for a year and have more games. Games for the PS3 will come...eventually. It sucks, however, how they are phasing out the 60GB version and replacing it with the $600 80GB version (no emotion engine).

It's a hard decision to make between the two consoles. It's a decision i'm trying to make myself. Already have a Wii and love it. It's so cheap and a has great games.

If Microsoft wasn't dealing with their $1 billion problem(warranties & Red ring of death), the price of the 360 probably could have gone down and their sales would have been thru the roof. But they can't lower it until they can regain some of that lost.

You could try installing linux on the PS3, run a windows emulator, and try to game. There's some projects on the internet that have gotten some games to work.

    lol well said.

yep they blocked off the gpu. i bet if they opened it and embraced the linux community sales would EXPLODE.

of course, they probably don't want that since they are losing money on each sale.

some games coming out would be great.

Other than Resident Evil 5, Sony did not offer anything I would want. I can say the same for XBOX 360. I am not that jealous because Resident Evil: Umbrella chronicles is almost here.
