Downloading now! While it supposedly is having problems, I am very eager to play this game! I have been a CS junkie for the past 8 years. Now it SAYS I can "gift" another one but I am not seeing it in my steam account right now. Maybe after I download it will be there. It stated "give the gift of CS:GO to your buddies." Soooo....IF i do find the invite, ask me nice and I will give it to the first one to respond! "Go go go." Can't wait to play this game.

    Congrats!

I hear restarting STEAM can fix some of the inventory bugs.

Thanks! I figured that may be the issue but I don't want to interrupt my download ;)

I may have been invited for doing that survey that was posted awhile ago or just luck of the draw from playing it again lately as I just started playing after a long layoff. The new one looks interesting and I hope it stays competitive. A few pros have said good and bad things about it but again, it's a beta so who knows. I'll probably give a good review of it after I get some hours in this evening.

Eh, looking at the video previews etc, this game just looks so weird now with all the soldiers shooting from the hips rather than holding it properly.

But oddly, the game still looks the same as CS 1.6 to me. Well look forward to your review.

On another note, this game looks pretty balling to me.

It looks brilliant for a source engine game.

Been playing it for a while now... recoil and movement needs a little work. But otherwise its pretty solid.

And being released for the $$$ of a map pack has its perks too I suppose.

    OK so here it is:

Initial impressions (and they are very initial):
The graphical overhaul is hit and miss. It is definitely an update from CS:S but I will always love the "clean" textures and maps of CS:S. It still looks good today because the textures have held the test of time.

This game has more dynamic shadows, particle effects and slightly better textures. It's not nearly as good as a Crysis or BF3 but much closer to the MW COD crowd.

As a competitive game, I think it needs work. Jumping is a mess and the recoil and shooting seem very random. I won't say it's a Modern Warfare clone, but it doesn't have that twitch reflex that really makes CS 1.6 and CS:S so brilliant. Those games have both team strategy and reflex based gameplay.

However, much of this can be resolved in patches. I am soo used to CS:S that it is very difficult to tell the difference between CT/T so when you first play, go for the "Casual" mode.

The "Casual mode" automatically puts you in a game with starting helmet/Vest and no Friendly Fire.

"Competitive Mode" you need to buy your Vest/Helmet and there is Friendly Fire (and a few other changes I can't recall).

The classic maps are almost just how we remember them but with a bit more flare...and lots of chickens to shoot! Aztec is one map that just looks plain ugly to me for some reason. That map needs some work. Dust/Dust2/Inferno look great. It's definitely a step up from CS:S and L4D 2. I wonder what version of Source they are running?!

My main concern is that Counter Strike was the MAIN e-sport game in 2004. I am not quite sure if this game will bring CS back to competitive glory but I am hoping there are some good patches! It's still counter-strike but maybe not the Evolution we have hoped for.
As for the Key. First person to PM me will get my free key to enjoy.

    Peace

    Have you played it enough?

Jumping was way worse in source and recoil WAS random in source. AK spray is pretty good in GO actually.

I'm not sure the 'twitch' factor is what made the original good, but rather the controllable recoil in 1.6, in combo with the buying mechanics, wall banging etc. I guess spray in source was semi controllable at best.

I'm with you though - work needs to be done... but its really hard to say if the recoil etc is bad or just 'different' and hence seems bad.

It (gameplay)hasn't been updated in like a month now, so I assume something big is coming through soon. Its being released in August too (I think!) and so hopefully they change a few things.

CS:GO still isn't "Counter-strike 2"... so at worst I hope it can keep me occupied until then.

The Beta Key is now Gone. Went to CouchKing who was the first...and only person to e-mail me requesting the key! Hope you enjoy it.

Niharjhatn I agree, it's hopefully a good "tide me over" until CS:2 or whatever it will be called will be released.

One more important note, this game is VERY well optimized. It will play just fine on a variety of rigs. I have it absolutely maxed and it's around 160-220FPS. not a huge drop from CS:S.
