I'm preparing for College and as a graduation present the folks decided to buy me a laptop. They gave me a $1500 budget. After some research (and a realization that Alienware laptops are overpriced), I ordered a computer from CyberPower. Here are the specs:
Model: Xplorer X6-9300
Intel® Core i7-2720QM Mobile Processor 2.20 GHz 6M Intel Smart Cache, Max Turbo Freq. 3.30 GHz
8GB (4GBx2) DDR3-1333 SODIMM Memory
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M 1.5GB GDDR5 PCIe Video
500GB 5400RPM SATA300 Hard Drive
This was the best I could do with my budget (without doing a homebuild; I have no experience working with electronics whatsoever so this wasn't an option for me).
Hopefully I'll be playing things like Mass Effect in a short while, and hopefully it will be able to handle Skyrim when it comes out.

Well to be fair, getting a bare-bones notebook and putting parts in yourself isn't really that much cheaper anyways.
-
I think you all overreacted way too much.
The system he bought is a Clevo P151MH and from XoticPC it is:
i7 2720QM
GTX 460M
8GB 1333
500 GB 7200
Win 7 64 HP
$1459
So for price it's about the same. The warranty seems to be inferior though. 3 year labor, 1 year parts, but the shipping isn't free. Doesn't seem like such a bad deal to me, although I would have gone with Sager through XoticPC. Why are you all calling it a Lego when you all are Clevo owners? -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
homebuild notebook doesn't have much of a financial benefit, agreed.

It does if you are smart and if you are willing to go with slightly older stuff.
The 3700m can match the 460m. I could get a system running for one third of the price of this one.
....thats worth it.
If you are smarter than me you could build an ati 5870 system for that price... -
Good choice
congrats! -
One advice: OVERCLOCK your gpu to a safe extent !!!!
And you will be even more happy. This card has great potential to overclock. -
Just got a new comp and I can't wait to see what it can do!
