Yea it works but it just keeps crashing, set to compatibility mode, went to older drivers, forced software sound, etc etc I cant even play more then half n hour without it crashing, sometimes less.

Any suggestions? Other than running on XP....

Upgrade to the Windows 7 RC and use the windows xp VM?

Some other forum says to try installing in compatibility mode and play in compatibility mode after that.

ok I am just reinstalling it, it had installed itself in the 64bit program folder, so I dont know if there was some conflict there with it not being 64bit. Will report back with results after its done though.

edit: thanks Ayle, will try that after if this doesnt work.

This file will fix KOTOR 2 to run in Vista 64, http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/file/TSL_Windows_Vista_Fix;85439

To fix KOTOR 1 you may need to replace the Mss34.dll file in it's main directory, you can find the replacement files over google, or here http://files.filefront.com/Mss32dll/;6695046;/fileinfo.html

And heres something I found on another site, but I haven't tested it before.

There are mods to skip Taris, but if you don't want to bother with those you could have one of my saves right at the start of Dantooine.

I'm surprised you even got it working . . . KOTOR refused to even launch on my Vista32 desktop. I tried compatibility mode and the dll fix to no avail.

Lol @ Taris . . . yes it is quite annoying. You are so limited at that stage of the game.

You should try Mass Effect - it's an excellent RPG like KOTOR, made by Bioware.

I still love both KOTORS, and it was a pain to get them to both work but it was well worth it, Mass Effect is great too, I'm pretty much a Star Wars/Bioware fanboy.

I think its the fact it doesn recognize my V-Card, says it needs drivers, but i know its fine, o well, its not crashing as often now so its fine.

Also I found my saves :D

I dont like the fact that on Taris your wasting levels on a soldier when ur gunna be a Jedi anyways, so dumb! oh well..

Mass Effect is really one of the few games I have no regrest about buying, awesome game!

I'm glad you found your saves! I think ME would be a lot more popular if they released a mod kit with the game, there is so little custom content for it if any it's hard to remain interested in it for long.

You don't need to level up on Taris . I had left this palnet with second level :)

KOTOR ran for me native with no patches/hacks/fixes/tweaks on Vista x64 Ultimate.

However it stupid slow, like 8fps I think it was, I had to turn down settings just to get it to run at 15fps. So something was very amiss.

It should have been at like 500fps lol.

Are you running any logitech drivers for mouse, keyboard, webcam? I have heard some issues with these and games. Personally my compiler wont run if logitech webcam drivers are installed on x64.

Yeah I have the setpoint stuff installed for my MX518, and I used to have a webcam installed too but should have removed all of that stuff a while back.

The webcam quality was great but it gave me a nightmare with some other stuff drivers/applications and what not so I took it off. I love my MX518 though, and use setpoint so that I can change the key config and use the dpi buttons.

This, by the way, is precisely how to make Taris fun. Dodging grenades and getting through without getting hit is an art form.

Heh I usually get to lvl 5 on Taris and stop after that to save the other 15 for jedi levels, although trying to make it by just getting level 2 sounds interesting lol. Didn't work for me either at first on 64 bit vista once I used that file that someone posted earlier and changed compatibility mode to xp SP2 + always run as admin, worked fine after that.
