    Hey everyone,

I just got my HP mini 311-1000NR (N270, 3GB Ram, 160GB HDD) this past weekend and I bought KOTOR from D2D since I've heard it runs quite well on this netbook and it's supposed to be a great game.

Well, I installed the game and ran it, but it was sort of a fast slide show. I was getting ~10fps in the main menu where the sithlord is just chilling out and about 7fps at the very beginning of the game.

Also, it takes me about 5 minutes just to get to the main menu because there is a long pause in between clicking the shortcut and getting to the intro videos and then another long pause from getting from the intro videos to the main menu.

I've tried different different settings, but the lowest settings get the exact same fps as the highest settings.

I've also tried overclocking and the at my highest stable clock (1.85ghz) I was still getting the same fps.

I'm using the most up to date graphics drivers and I installed the rest of the drivers from the hp website.

    Thanks :)

Have you tried to run the .exe file in windows xp compatible mode? It may help.

patch it and switch to older drivers, this helped me run KOTOR II.

Also this website has many mods and fixes, so have a look through them to see if there is anything that can help.

I found it was a hit or miss as to whether it worked or not. It for some reason works better on the older drivers.

What OS are you using exactly?

Also, have you patched the game to it's latest version, and are you running your power plan under 'performance' or something else such as 'balanced' or 'power saver'?
Put the power plan on 'performance' unless it's set to that already, patch the game ... and just how many programs do you have starting up with the OS?

Thanks, but I tried that and it didn't help. :(

I'll try this as soon as I get home today!

I'm using Win 7 Pro with Black Viper's service tweaks running on performance.

I haven't patched it yet, so I'll try that and I have nothing starting up with the OS.

Argh... I figured out that my game is already patched up, so that can't be the issue and the older drivers didn't help either. :(

Are graphics drivers set to "performance"?

Yeah, but that didn't help either. I think the issue isn't with the graphics since I can completely max out the game and still get the same framerates.

I had some horrible issues trying to get one of the older games to run. Like 8fps no matter what my settings.

It may be graphics drivers, but you may also want to try to set cpu affinity to be a single core cpu. I think some old games do not like multi core cpu's. I never tried this when I was messing with KOTOR but its worth trying for sure.

If the game is really important you may want to setup a dual boot into an older version of windows.

The HP Mini 311 comes with an Atom single core, so I don't think affinity will help.

I used to play this game on my Dell Mini 9 on bare min specs. It should be able to play it. It lagged sometimes, but its an RPG, like it matters.
