I'd be interested in reviving the Knights of the Old Republic games on my new notebook: my system specs will ace those games but I've looked at some forums, including Lucasarts, and it seems like flippin' Vista is acting up again :)mad: ) and most people can't run either Kotor I or II in Vista. Pity cos they're just about the only good SW games.

So before I potentially waste my time and install them: has anybody tried? Do they work? Apparently Kotor II is somewhat more forgiving on Vista if run in XP compatibility mode

Try it in compatibility mode. I think it will work just fine.

Also, make sure to use modded drivers. You're going to have better success with that.

When he says, "modded drivers," I believe he means using something like laptopvideo2go drivers, which sometimes work better than stock drivers on laptops.

Hopefully you are using an Nvidia card.

I've been doing a bit of searching on this topic too and I don't think you can run KOTOR. KOTOR II seems to be "a bit more forgiving" but I don't know if that means the game will run or not. Apparently the only way to get KOTOR to run is by disabling the sound. It's really a shame. I hope Lucas Arts releases a patch but something tells me that is probably not going to happen.

    Hi,

I've just registered to post this :)

Trying to get KOTORII working on Vista 64 (hence me finding this post) and I've had a nightmare. I've only recently played KOTOR and had no issues at all on this system, but trying to get II working is a nightmare. It HAS worked as I've racked up about 4 hours with a new game, but its very sporadic in terms of compatibility. I've *almost* given up.

Anyways, I was only posting to tell the OP to give it a go. You know its worth it if they do work, just dont spend too much time messing round if they dont :)

Good luck, or more appropriately perhaps - May the Force be with you! lol

Thanks for the input fellas. Vista is truly testing my patience. I'll post back if I get it to work, but I ain't holding my breath

@ BigBoostin: thanks for letting me know dude

Curious how Fire404 got Kotor to work but not KotorII; seems like usually it's the other way around

Hi, which driver on StormEffect's link should be downloaded? There's a whole list. Thanks.

If I knew that i'd be happy(er), truth is I didnt do anything to get KOTOR to work - it just did without any fiddling around.

Strangely tho, I've got KOTORII working! Done nothing special, I just have to launch it AS SOON as Vista will let me following a reboot. Must be summat that Vista loads late in its boot sequence that KOTORII doesnt like. Anyways, a quick restart and I can run it. Far from ideal (and occasionally the cinematics skip themselves) but I can still play the thing.

Not much use to anyone I guess, but thought I may as well post again.

I'm not even sure if my integrated Intel X3100 can run KOTOR but if it works on your Vista machine without any problems . . . I am very tempted to try it.

Try going to configure and "force the sound" thing option I got mine to run in vista after countless 5 - 10 minutes of reading post and aggrivations

tada it works O_O :D

btw you will get the configure menu to easily pull up when u try to launch the game it will give you a set of options before you can even get into the game scroll down to --> Configure --> force sound blahblah part hope this helps merry xmas :)

    .again.

    *AHHH IT'S ALIVE!!!!*
    *runs away screaming*

Anywho, it does seem that the VAST majority of game compatibility issues come from them completely dropping support for their old sound API.

You'd think they'd have the presence of mind to include some simple emulator...which would fix most of the game compatibility issues.

    OMG IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

still some slight bugs but I just played over an hour of it just make sure you keep saving the game (f4 quicksaves) and just regular saves thats my advice..you may not encounter the same bugs but just to be on the safe side, this is the best I think it will work on vista. :) merry xmas!

hi well it should work but..well hears my problem..i own a Compaq presario CQ60 which runs on vista..its brand new...i installed kotor1 and it runs fine...so i thought id install kotor2. it installes fine but when i go to open it it just gives me a message saying that kotor2 has stopped working and that microsof is checking for a solution...then it brings another message just saying that a problem has caused the program to stop working and that microsoft will notify me if a solution arises.when i first opened kotor1 it gave me a few compatability problems includung graphic card..but it still ran fine...and kotor 2 only gave me the graphics card warning...so by rights it should run better than kotor1...im stumped so if any1 has a solution tht would b great :D :) may the force be with you all :)
