So I'm getting awful performance in this game while people with rigs half as powerful as mine are tripling my FPS at similar settings - even if I turn things all the way to their lowest option, I only get a 10FPS boost so clearly something is wrong.

I keep hearing that it's a Driver issue and was wondering what people here thought.

I'm currently using Microsoft 198.05 WHQL and the Official PhysX_9.10.0129 drivers, along with what I imagine to be the newest version of DirectX considering the amount of times Steam updates it whenever I install a new game.

Wondering if anyone with a similar rig to mine is getting decent performance and, if so, what drivers/software I should be using instead. Unless it is just an awful port but most people seem to be fine with it (although I'm not the only one to have this issue).

Have you tried using the actual latest drivers from Nvidia?

Seriously, your performance could be tied to that ... or it's possible another type of software that runs in the background is slowing you down.

I'll have a look - the driver I'm currently using is the best performance-wise for all my other games though, so it would be annoying to sacrifice that just for the sake of one (mediocre) game. Guess I could reinstall later, but still...

As for a programme running in the background - all my other stuff runs great so it's unlikely to be that.

I got curious about this game after seeing your post and I am on the latest Nvidia 258.96 official WHQL Drivers so I will try it out later to see how it runs. I was also using the Microsoft 198.05 before upgrading.

Despite the mediocre reviews (and the fact that the campaign is 3 hours 45 minutes long - seriously, not even rushing through), I actually am glad I played it.

It looks incredible - technically it isn't pushing much and is actually pretty poor by today's standards but the filters and effects they have going on are insane. The look is unique and creative and really helped add a lot to the game.

It kept me playing despite the sparsity of what amounted to a story due to sheer in your face intensity. The gameplay was becoming repetitive, even with the short run time and the gunplay was rather weak with guns that were too inaccurate and didn't do enough damage (although much better than the first game) but despite all this, I kind of enjoyed it. A weird 6/10 for me.

Just installed the new drivers myself and am going to see if that did anything....

EDIT: Updated Drivers have added around 50% to my FPS - looks like that was the issue after all. Still not a constant 60 (more like 45 in gun fights) but much, much smoother and if you look at performance analysis on the consoles, they don't maintain the full 60 either most of the time. Getting around 90 outside of combat also.

EDIT EDIT: Ugh, performance back to awful. Barely staying above 30 - I guess the level I was on was just less intensive than the others. Performance seems to have improved though, just marginally so. Should be getting 60 no problem.

I just finished it and I enjoyed it a lot (but not the ending lol). For me I'll give it a 7 or even 7.5/10.. :p I played it on Hard difficulty (which is very challenging and constantly breathtaking and IMO playing on Hard is what makes the experience so much more fun and intense) and I'm pretty sure the game lasted for 7+ hours (or actually 8) for me. That (playing on easy or normal) may explain why so many people are saying the game only last for 4-5 hours and they think the game is crap...lol Lots and lots of non-stop enjoyable shooting (for me on Hard) makes this feels like one of the old school classics. For some reason I thought this game felt like a combination of Quake 4 and Freedom Fighters, which both I enjoyed a lot.

I played this on my desktop (ATI 5850) so it's constantly 60+ fps even though I maxed it. :)

I tested the Demo and had everything high, no AA/AF at 1600 x 900 resolution. I never really got a constant frame rate but it was always perfectly playable and my fps was from 35-80 fps, 45 fps a lot of the time and 60 fps sometimes.

Cranking the res up to 1920x1080 was barely a 10% performance hit so I kept it at that - turning off 'sharpening' in the advanced menu seems to add another 20% for your FPS but the game looks AWFUL with it disabled. Looks like you're playing a wide 1280x720 mode at that point.

It's playable, but I'm still getting drops down to the mid 20s occasionally which is annoying as all hell - even more so when most other people are getting 60FPS with inferior hardware.
