Even though I welcome this long awaited content, it honestly doesn't look like much. Also, if the "two complete campaigns for Versus Mode," that are announced as part of it are Death Toll and Dead Air, I'd say Valve was sort of...shall we say lazy on that issue? But otherwise, the Survival Mode sounds intriguing; hopefully it will be akin to the CoD:WAW zombie mode. I thought they did a pretty good job with that.
Your thoughts?
UPDATE: There is apparently an episode of GameTrailers TV on Spike TV, airing tomorrow, that is going to show some exclusive footage of the new content. (SOURCE: http://kotaku.com/5147648/left-4-dead-lost-and-ed-exclusives-hitting-gametrailers-tv).
UPDATE 2: The DLC will be free for PC users, says Gabe Newell of Valve in a personal email. (SOURCE: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=798259)
UPDATE 3: Well, the GameTrailers TV segment was disappointing. After spending the majority of time on the GTA IV DLC, they briefly mentioned that Dead Air and Death Toll will be playable in Versus and that Survival Mode is essentially, "survive as long as you can," mode

It said the sdk will be free for pc users, but I wonder how much the expansion pack will be? I hope its not $20.

Great news thanks

There is a huge uproar on the Steam Forums due to a leaked email or something that says PC users have to pay for the DLC.
It hasn't been confirmed officially yet, but if it's true then Valve has made a big mistake.
Valve still rocks though.
EDIT: As of a few minutes ago, Valve has made an official statement saying that they have not decided whether or not to charge PC users for the extra content.
Go Valve! -
EDIT: Nevermind, found it. But apparently, that was a miscommunication and the original source has said so. -
Yes I just saw that as well.
Wow, Valve respond REALLY fast don't they? Something like 20 minutes after the forum uproar began and Valve already issued a statement.
These guys are like road warriors. -
Ya. Especially since the intial price was $50 unless you got it early or during the x-mas sale. I think for $5 or $10 I am game if people feel it is a decent add-on, but at $15 it is no longer worth it. If they made the x-pack $5 and then said there would be another at the same price, it may be a better strategy to hold onto the community.
-
Finally! But wait....this spring? Aww! I want it today!
Oh well, at least it's free. (Maybe) -
-
Precisely.
You should have seen the Steam forums half an hour ago, it was absolute chaos!
Luckily Valve has good damage control teams. But to be honest, I would not mind paying extra since L4D is such an awesome game. -
i'm banning valve.. until half life episode 3 comes out... or i get an urge to play l4d
-
I'm not paying £15 just to be able to play Versus in Death Toll and Dead Air. £10, maybe since there's also the Survival Mode to consider.
-
Wait is the extra fee for the expansion pack?
Also when is half life 3 comming out? -
-
I would not pay a cent for the DLC, after all, it is just two more campaigns for Versus which should have been released along the game in the first place, also, the "Survival Mode" does not sound too interesting at all, the most I would pay is 1/4 a cent for the DLC, and only if it was the most amazing added content I had ever seen, to me, it just sounds like marketing to me, thumb down to Valve if they charge it.
If Valve decides to charge for the DLC, most likely there will be a really big boycott towards them, and would end up giving the DLC away for free unless they really wanted to lose money. -

Is half life 2 ep 3 gonna be like gta iv graphic wise, thats it only going to run with super fast computers.

Valve can't be charging for the DLC. They got all pissy about microsoft wanting them to make Orange box DLC cost money. Why would they suddenly have a change of heart?
*edit- I believe the "official word" is that the content will be free
p.s.
What is survival mode, I can't find anything about it. Other than "survival mode will be added" -
-
I know nothing of that either. I'm assuming something to the effect of "Stay alive as long as you can" mode.
-
Ah I still gotta play this.
-
-
-
-
-
They should make more zombie type of guys. -
Can't wait for modders to jump on the SDK. Regular L4D got boring quicker than I expected.
-
-
I contemplating on whether I should get burnout paradice. Guys is it really worth it? -
I still find a lot of replay value, even just in Versus on No Mercy. -
-
Us modders and mappers could have easily churned out maps like this within hours of the game releasing had the game not been encrypted and lock-tight, and I know that there's ways around this but why spends hours upon hours fiddling with it to get a map half working?
Before buying the game I knew that 4 campaigns wouldn't last long before your playing the same thing over and over, and that the community would be there to make the replay value limitless.
I wouldn't pay for the DLC for that one reason, because why pay them when I can create it myself? or get together with a few people who will do this for free and make campaigns of equal or even better quality than the ones they made. It isn't just that, but EVERY other source engine game has been openly modifiable, and paying for this just encourages them to not allow people to mod their game. -

grahhhg. valve you make me tear my hairs out.
be the kick company we all know that you are.
i gladly laid down $50 for L4D because of what you stand for. I will lay down more money the next time too. But if you stop living up to the expectations of excellence, I will drop you oh-so-fast. As will the entire pc gaming community. Bring people together (steam ftw, long term support). Do not split us up (purchase-DLC). Keep us happy (free DLC). And we will collectively keep you in good business.
Don't get greedy valve, I will drop you so freaking fast. Even EA was respectable once. -
the dlc might be free
http://www.edge-online.com/news/more-left-4-dead-content-spring
if it isn't they've just lost a lot of fans(look at the last paragraph) -
Valve has never let me down before...
I was expecting something like this to pop up as there are plenty of anarchists around who like... anarchy...
But maybe it was true and valve "leaked" this to see what the community response would be. Its a good cover...
I dont think we will have to pay for it, they wrote already that there will be another release (Critics Edition) that will generate sales. Rereleases always generate sales, look at the Witcher -
As much as I love L4D (and trust me, I love this freaking game), I refuse to pay a single cent for this update. I already paid $50 for an incomplete game. It would be ludicrous to charge the fans more money to complete the experience.
-
I agree. I love Left 4 Dead and I'm glad I purchased it, but I paid 50$ for 4 campaigns under the assumption that it would continue to be supported based on my initial purchase, not with additional payments. If the original game had been priced lower to accommodate future paid downloadable content I would be fine with paying for it.
-
I expected to have to pay for 360 DLC, but it's quite the surprise that they are considering PC as well.
-
I would like to remind everybody that posting images of private correspondence with others that contains their personal info is against the forum rules:
-
Well then in to recap. Gabe Newell himself has said this content will be free. The email in question is posted on the Steam L4D forums
I cannot confirm or deny if the picture is a fake. I'm just tired of people whining about something that just isn't true. -
-
I'm not just talking here. There are 50 threads in the steam forums alone. I just don't get why people would think it's going to cost. Valve never charges for DLC. Why would they start now?
-
-
I see valve added new maps to l4d.
