By now I'm sure everyone's probably heard something about the upcoming DLC for L4D/L4D2.....in addition to porting the 'No Mercy' campaign over to the newer game, you also get 'The Sacrifice' (for both) which has an awesome trailer.....
Read about it
Watch it
Even if you don't like it, or never played it......the trailer itself is pretty good (gotta love Bill lighting a moli with his Marlboro....lol).
Oh and here's a nice video tribute to L4D, done to GnR's "Welcome To The Jungle"......( check it out)

L4D is fun cause its spooky and I love horror. Any one that likes horror's should buy this game!
-
Double or nothing Valve will have stats running to see who gets snuffed the most (part of 'The Sacrifice' is the player's ability to choose who dies @ the end)
Anyone want to take any bets?
I say Louis -> Francis -> Zoey -> Bill -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
The player gets to choose? I thought Bill croaked at the end of The Passing.

Does Valve ever do anything wrong?
-
One of my favorite games, anything new is good.
We gonna see L4D3? -
The sacrifice: free
Set bonuses in TF2 that cannot be obtained without using the cash shop: $18(one hat) to $50(set of all poly items)
Seems a little schizophrenic to me.
Anyways, back on topic, this is going to add like 50 hours of additional replayability to L4D2 for me. AWESOME! -
Looks awesome!!!!

No it does sound like Valve. The new Valve. The Valve who promised DLC frequent and soon for games like L4D, but instead we saw L4D2, a $50 patch. The Valve who turns an already ADD casual cartoon fest into even more of a laughing stock by offering hats and item quests. The Valve who instead of producing Episode 3 will eventually start producing crudware and pushing it as triple-A like every other company out there, except that this time they won't be able to blame piracy.
-
Seriously, you're acting as if they've started charging $15 a pop for stuff that was already on the disk like a certain other company... And you can call L4D2 a "patch," but in reality it would have been at least 7 separate patches (probably more, and likely with a bunch of bugs), so paying to get it all at once makes sense to me. -
Well so they're charging the consumer for the polycount.. it's a pretty hefty update and it's just a supplement to the game. Imo, L4D2 seemed more like an expansion pack rather than a different game.
I doubt that Valve has become a "New Valve". The sheer creativity and uniqueness of their games are incredibly baffling to those who play many mainstream FPS games. Pretty much all of Valve's games are critically acclaimed and they've gone were no other games have ever gone. On paper, TF2 seems childish and dumb, Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 seems like a generic zombie game, Counter Strike seems like a simple game were you're waiting to spawn half of the time, and Half Life just seems like some shooter with a couple of puzzles and twists.
However, when these ideas were implemented it was like holy crap this is awesome. And so, they're asking for some cash for the update and I don't see why this is a bad thing. It'll help move Valve along to even bigger and greater things (like maybe a new counter strike lol). -

With L4D, the multiplayer linear. The gameplay gets repetitive after you have played the games for a few weeks. IMO it's important for valve to keep coming out with DLC to keep the game fresh.

But I digress. -
Like not finishing a series................Episode 3 anybody ? -

Damn that was an amazing trailer.
As for the TF2 charging, yeah stop complaining, they've released SO many free updates that have changed how the game plays dramatically and you can still get those items as drops (there are a few that are buy-only but on the other hand there are a few that are drop-only, but the main thing is that they're not making powerful items buy-only, there's no advantage for people who pay).
Valve hasn't become a new Valve, the people used to their freebies just doesn't want to remind themselves that at the end of the day, Valve is a company, people need to get paid, games don't grow on trees. -
Didn't mean to bump this thread, but I was perusing Steam's L4D2 forums while waiting for my DLC to finish downloading and I found the following thread which raises an interesting possibility......
DLC 3?
Mysterious files/filenames raise the possibility of other L4D campaigns possibly showing up in L4D2..... -
It's out, I played it, and sadly I have to say it's a bit underwhelming.
I mean, yay, it's free, and the hype itself was pretty fun, but it seemed pretty same old except for the ending.
The comic is an awesome addition though. -
I thought it was very good. At least the Sacrifice which is the only one I've played so far. I mean, what else was there to see? It's the same game engine, with the same goals, graphics, theme, etc. I don't see much room to turn an additional campaign (like all the others are) into something radically different. This is the way the game is.
It was just what I expected, and what was advertised: another campaign. It wasn't supposed to be L4D 3... I had fun, and will continue to do so -
They could have done scripted events and stuff, something cooky with the level design, cutscenes for a little real story (again, loved the comic, a cutscene with the boat full of witches would be funny as hell), I dunno.
-
Well, yeah, the comic was a nice addition. It was violent too. For some reason I thought it would be a watered down, good thing it wasn't.

Here's a quick and possibly stupid question:
So I currently have L4D2 installed. The patch for The Sacrifice update was about 3.6 gb.
When I fired up the game it seems to be using l4d1 graphics. I heard somewhere that The Sacrifice DLC was made for L4D1.
So does this mean L4D2 is temporarily using L4D1 graphics for this campaign?
I'm pretty sure l4d2 looked much better with sharper textures and a more refined look overall. -
Is anyone planning to get the 4 pack L4D2? It's only around USD5 per person, a total steal! I am interested to chip in for a copy, sent to me as a gift and I will pay back in the best possible method
Actually, I already have a retail copy of Left 4 Dead 2 (South East Asia version) but I found out the hard way that it doesn't work in Australia as Steam somehow manages to figure out that I'm not suppose to play an uncensored version of the game in Australia and stops it from running.
So I wanna know if it is actually possible to have 2 copies of the same game in one Steam account? -
'The Sacrifice' was made for both L4D and L4D2 and can be played as part of the original game, or part of the sequel (using the orig. characters, but updated weapons).
I didn't care as much about the new campaign really as I did about the port of 'No Mercy' from L4D. Once all the servers catch up and everyone finally gets the DLC downloaded & bugs worked out, I can see No Mercy easily supplanting 'Dead Center' or 'Dark Carnival' as the most-played map. It'll be a while before I go back to either one of those maps, that's for sure..... -
So how come my L4D2 game looks like L4D1?
-
Yawns:SLEEP: ...........................wake me up when Episode 3 comes out.
