Hi guys,
a while back I bought Left 4 Dead 2 in India while I was staying there for a month. The games were much cheaper than in Australia, and so I thought I'd play it for a while there. I also brought my friend a unopened copy (which is now useless), and once I got back to Australia and tried to fire it up, it tells me L4D2 cannot be played as I'm in the wrong geographical region... which annoys me. I contacted steam but they didn't care. (Way to purchase original games right...)
So my main question is this. I want to sell them on eBay, but I need to know if anyone knows.. if I bought it in India, what countries can I send them to (Is it locked to India, or South Asia, or Asia as a whole?).
If anyone knows help would be greatly appreciated!

There's no way to sell steam games without selling the whole account, which is against Valve's TOA.
You can try fleabay but probably not a good idea, too many potential problems.
My advice is keep bugging valve for it. There's not much you can do. -

i remember discussing this in a different forum ill try and remember how it went.
basically bottom line is to buy it in your area. there are several reasons why these region locks are in place mostly to do with dumb reasons but they are there. i remember a user buying a copy in india and activating it on a usa ip address and it worked fine but once he returned to india on a business trip it no longer worked an gave the error you got.
im sure you got it at an incredibly discounted price there so not really that much of a waste. id ont know if buying another copy will get it to work in your area you might have to create another account.
with stuff like this you really have to have separate accounts for different regions. this is how the playstation network and all other region based online services ive used work. it unfortunate that its like that but they do have to comply with laws so you most likely are not getting a response from valve because there really isnt much they can do about it. -
I heard that the Australian version is censored before. Maybe that's the reason why it says you're in the wrong are. Maybe the copy you bought is the uncensored version. I'm not sure though. I'm just guessing.

But your government really is protecting you. Honest -
i lived in India for a number of years, and when i left to come back home i found there are a few games that wont work out of that country i think its much more simply than some of these ideas that are around, i think its region locked because its so cheap, its meant to be for the Indian market, which unfortunately pirates the majority of its games.....all the games that i brought genuinely for a cheap price only work in India the games that were more expensive i haven't had a problem with out of India....

Yep. I get that. I really do.
But here's the thing. Obviously my opened copy with the cd key used is pretty much wasted unless I go back to India.
But I would like to know if anyone knows.. if you buy the game in India.. where else would it work? It can't be only India.. what if you go to Thailand or something. Would it work there? -

Awesome REB!
Yeah Germany is included with Australia. I know L4D and Killing Floor have separate German versions.
For Killing Floor in German, ragdoll animation limited, no blood, no burning, no gore. Kinda takes out the fun of horror.
But read Germans can play the uncensored version by buying it elsewhere in EU. -
i don't understand it myself. if you are buying the game and are over the age limit for it, surely you KNOW what the game content is about and would therefore not want it censored. 'KILLING Floor' and 'Left 4 DEAD 2'
i mean to censor virtual blood from people old enough, when its possible to be in a hospital and see plenty of real gore. -
