In other news, Gamespot reports that the Take-Two CEO is continuing the franchise despite the almost universal scorn poured by critics on the game's retail release.

The only thing that might redeem the franchise is that Gearbox if hired will be given carte blanche to do the game up from scratch and distance itself from the terrible legacy of 3DRealms.

LOL. Wow, read the IGN hater user comments. tee hee.

Really, I think Duke Nukem is not a great game. But it is a fun game. As many said, a tribute to Duke. I have spent a lot of money on a lot worse games. I do, however, regret spending $45 on it. Perhaps it should have released as a $20 or $30 game and not a $50-$60 one.

If they actually did decide to release a **gasp** sequel, they better do it in short order, seriously. Use the Unreal engine if they have to. Use the Crytek engine if they have to. Heck even redesign the original game and throw it in any new engine it would probably make good money and satisfy a lot of 90's Duke lovers.

My thoughts on DNF i.e. 'Did Not Finish' is the company took an existing franchise and just polished it up and sold it to gauge the interest of gamers. It accomplished what it set out to do. I did not expect DNF to be any good when it was passed on several times to different teams over an 11 year period. You realistically can't expect a game to be any good like that.

Now the company with sales/money from DNF can do a completely new DN game with current graphics and refined game play. I think this is all working out for T2.

Duke Nukem Forever is actually quite good compared to most FPS's now in days. Sorry Call of Duty isn't an FPS worth any merit and throughout its history has been a bunch of WWII copies and Modern Warfare copies of one another. Honestly when was the last time anyone here played a good FPS? I still feel like Duke Nukem Forever reminded me of the same exact gameplay as HL2 without the Gravity Gun. Obviously the Gravity Gun was a game changer as much as the Source Engine. I'm not defending Duke Nukem Forever but when I look at people grasp COD/HALO #30 with such admiration it makes me confused. Compared to DNF they are just as boring and unoriginal.

After HL2 what have we gotten in terms of GREAT FPS's? F.E.A.R , Bioshock 1, Crysis, BF2, Metroid Prime 3 and ......... I mean I'm probably going to anger the wrath of quite a few gamers but get real. The FPS genre is over saturated with steaming piles of poo with pretty graphics. I'm looking at you Far Cry. On the horizon all I can see is the COD/BF3 aim down the gun super realistic shooting.

Before I submit this I would just like to say that I love gaming. Heck the first game I played on PC was half-life and I was so terrified of it that I would only play the training and watching Return of Castle Wolfenstein gameplay. But whatever happened to an FPS game that has blown you away in the last few years? I'm hoping for RAGE to prove me wrong but I think that the stupid rechargeable health, 2 gun limit and other current FPS trends will bring it down.

It all depends on what you look for in an FPS. ;) After Halo and HL2, My list of great first-person games would have on it Portal, Amnesia, Bioshock, Team Fortress 2, Borderlands, Bulletstorm, and, yes, CoD 4. All of these games were not only mind-blowingly awesome in their own right but irreversibly redefined and reshaped their respective subgenres. In fact, all of them have had (or will have) a major impact on their successors. Any game can sell a lot of copies in one month, six months, or even over the course of a year; Call of Duty and other franchises have proven that. But in my eyes, it's the resounding impact which counts.

The problem with all this debate about DNF is that game's advocates and critics are arguing on two completely different levels. Duke's supporters enjoy and appreciate the game because of what it represents and how it is presented -- his critics are simply unmoved by anything other than the first-person action aspect of the game, which is undeniably dull and hardly innovative.

To me it's clear that DNF tried to modernize Duke to capture what modern shooters do. But after changing hands and delays it's like they just eliminated any open world or variables and made it an on-rails shooter.

The problem was as total biscuit said.

It took all of the worst elements of old shooters and combined them with all the worss parts of modern shooters.
